About us
Established in Washington, D.C., over 60 years ago, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a bipartisan, nonprofit policy research organization dedicated to providing strategic insights and policy solutions to help decisionmakers chart a course toward a better world. Founded in 1962 by David M. Abshire and Admiral Arleigh Burke, CSIS is one of the world’s preeminent international policy institutions focused on defense and security; geoeconomics and technology; Asia and other regional studies; and transnational challenges ranging from energy and climate to global health policy and food & water security. For nine consecutive years, CSIS was named the world's number one think tank for international security by the University of Pennsylvania's “Go To Think Tank Index.” The Center’s over 275 full-time staff and large network of affiliated scholars conduct research and analysis and develop policy initiatives that look to the future and anticipate change. CSIS is regularly called upon by Congress, the executive branch, the media, and others to explain the day’s events and offer recommendations to improve U.S. strategy. In late 2015, Thomas J. Pritzker was named chairman of the CSIS Board of Trustees. Mr. Pritzker succeeded former U.S. senator Sam Nunn (D-GA), who chaired the CSIS Board of Trustees from 1999 to 2015. CSIS is led by John J. Hamre, who has served as president and chief executive officer since 2000. Ask yourself, why is it even midsize businesses use AI but the upper echelons of U.S. foreign policy are immune to data analysis and algorithmic reasoning? Check out my call for the Trump administration to integrate AI into the National Security Council. It won't replace policy analysts. It will catalyze a revolution in strategic analysis. #AI #strategy #geopolitics #Trump #foreignpolicy #NSC https://lnkd.in/eMUYpPuA

Read the latest report in the CSIS Futures Lab "On Future War" series to learn more about the tradeoffs between cockpit and command center–based control in shaping the next era of combat operations: https://lnkd.in/eYFhnHm5
🇨🇳 China’s recent advances in unmanned aerial systems highlight the intense tech competition at play. With a new autonomous ‘loyal wingman’ in development, it’s clear that U.S. progress in Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCAs) is under close watch. In response, our latest Futures Lab report, “Cockpit or Command Center?” led by Senior Fellow Benjamin Jensen, examines how the U.S. Military can adapt to this shifting landscape. 🌌 Our report projects a future where networks of manned and unmanned systems control the skies, reshaping air power through modular capabilities across counterair, interdiction, and close air support. Simulated scenarios, Red Flag exercises, and home station wargames all point to one critical factor: 🧠 The ability to command and control (C2) these networks is as vital as the technology itself. 💬 As we assess these challenges and opportunities, we invite you to join the discourse on how CCA networks can shape operational strategies, enhance mission command, and maintain our competitive edge in the air domain. 📄 Read our full report to see what’s next for air combat’s digital frontier! https://lnkd.in/dscSwd6N
