Ending doesn't make sense, so many plot holes!!!
chicaja22 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The movie goes downhill when Lina sees she is using the alphabet board. Why is she working with the doctor now when he just tried to kill her? Why does Lina want to kill Katherine when she was originally trying to save her from Lawrence? Why does Katherine want to kill Lina in the first place if she planned on outing her with Lawrence, for killing Jamie with her journal. In the end it is made to look like Anna was a hero even tho it was her idea to bring Katherine back to the house and kill her. Was Lawrence into Lina or Katherine? What is his motives? So many plot holes. Is my review confusing? That's what the movie is like!

needs one change
SnoopyStyle4 November 2023
Nurse Nicky Mackenzie (Anna Friel) gets a new patient, Katherine (Famke Janssen) who is unable to communicate due to her injuries. She starts talking to Katherine's visitor Lina (Rose Williams). 13 years earlier after the death of Lina's mother, Katherine had become her guardian. At the time, Katherine was a rich and famous Hollywood actress. Her son Jamie suffers from periodic seizures. 3 years earlier, Lina is marrying Jamie (Finn Cole). Dr. Robert Lawrence (Alex Hassell) is treating Jamie.

This feels more like an old timey soapy romance melodrama mystery. I like all these actors. I am slightly intrigued with their characters. I would change one thing for sure. Nicky Mackenzie should be a cop investigating Katherine's incident. As a nurse, she adds no tension to the story. As a cop, she could uncover some sort of foul play and the audience would be more invested in the mystery.

Being locked in somewhere is preferable to watching this.
Sleepin_Dragon4 November 2023
Former actress and Hollywood star Katherine wakes from a coma, but is unable to communicate, helped by Nurse Nicky Mackenzie, who tries to unlock the causes of her injury, only her daughter in law seems to have the answers.

Once again, it's curse of number one on Netflix, a movie that on paper should have been very good, but ultimately disappoints.

It's like one of those plush, but dodgy 1980's afternoon movies, if only Katherine had been given a Range Rover, Golden retrievers, a perm, spritz of Fidji, and a box of Terry's All Gold.

A tale of hidden passions, vengeance, loathing and dark secrets, it's hard to care for a single one of them, they're all awful people.

I didn't care for the storyline, or the over the top music, it all jars, it's so clunky.

Famke Janssen does a good job as Katherine, she plays the Lady or The Manor very well, but ultimately she is wasted, she's better than this.

What I want to know, why is this number one, who's actually watching this and enjoying it?

Poor, 5/10.

Complete nonsense
joana_dc_santos2 November 2023
The premise of a woman who can't communicate after an accident but still finds a way to let her nurse know that someone tried to kill her starts off interesting. But let me save you your time: this movie is bad and will add nothing but sorrow to your life.

ALL the characters are annoying and make the dumbest decisions possible every single time. I would explain with examples, but then my review would be classified as containing spoilers and I wouldn't be able to save people that haven't yet wasted their time with this.

It's an infuriating, uninspired, very predictable movie. Rating it a 3 is being generous.

Modern Gothic slow burn mystery.
jmbovan-47-16017310 November 2023
Locked In is generically a modern Gothic story. British, manor, orphans, illness, love affairs, duplicitous characters, plots within plots, etc. All of that, the movie does well.

Do we need another Gothic mystery of orphaned child becoming entwined with a decaying family and its manor? Probably not. Do the actors move past the 2 dimensional nature of their characters? Decidedly no. Does the story line bring anything new or ingenious to the story? A resounding no.

Part of the issue I see is that the main character is the young orphaned girl and her movement into this family and the machinations of the plot. She's not that interesting of a character. And the narrow focus that the film takes toward her shuts out the other characters from being able to provide much richness to the story.

This harkens to the great movie and story of Rebbeca in many ways. But that film allowed other characters room to play, and the uncertainty of motivations and conniving increased the sense of tension and dread. As a copy or comparison of that, this films decidedly missed the mark. As a display of a Gothic story, it does all right.

it doesn't make sense.
dwiese-616944 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I could follow it sort of up til the point of the murder of the husband and Lina and Lawrence trying to cover it up and Lina changing her mind out of guilt. Where the whole thing loses me is - out of NOWHERE - it appears that the doctor is having another affair with Katherine?!

Prior to that - he was trying to convince Lina to sell the mansion leaving Katherine homeless. But the next second he's busy getting it on with Katherine (and seemingly was playing Lina). What was his goal out of all this?! He stands to inherit nothing from either woman he chooses ??

Also if he was sleeping with Katherine - was she also involved or had knowledge of the husband's murder? How did that benefit her? Was their plan all along to kill the husband and frame Lina for the murder? Even if so - the house still does not belong to them?! Nothing makes sense!

Slow Build... Then "Locked In"
pollygregorash4 November 2023
Movie starts slow and takes its time to set out background and character relationships. Expect to be less engaged until the midway point. From there, the movie picks up its pace and the viewer can expect to question what's going on until the end of the film. Who is the victim? Who put this woman in the hospital? Is the woman in the hospital not as helpless as she seems? What is up with Lina? Well this nurse is about to find it all out, so pay attention.

I'm landing on a 6 for this one because it's good and keeps you guessing. A 7 and above needs to be excellent++ and this one falls short just slightly but still worth the watch.

Warning: Spoilers
Famke Jansen...what can I say? Since I first saw her in the Faculty, the woman cannot act. Her accent is diabolical. She spent 80% of the film blinking and still she did a poor job of it.

What was the point of the nurse character? Was Anna Freil having a slow year? In the middle of this godawful story there's a pushy nurse stuffing her face demanding answers from complete strangers. Uh...can I see a supervisor please? Could you avoid your blt as I ask you questions regarding my stepmother?

I'm a big fan of Alex Hassel after "The Boys". His back must've needed some attention after carrying this film.

Just a bad bad film, pure fluff.

An ok Netflix mystery
LetsReviewThat265 November 2023
With her mom in a coma, a young woman named Lina tries to come to terms with the events leading up to it, while her nurse tries to uncover the mysties surrounding the strange injuries to her body. I'd say this is a film that gets better the more you watch through it. I did feel however Anna fris seemed our of place. The nurse character iaent really part of the story and doesn't do anything to make it better but I like her as an actress so it's still nice seeing her. I feel bad for Jensen as she can't move her mouth fully anymore. I thought the mystery element was good though and if it were more gritty it could be even better.

Unapologetically generic and... soulless
bhutansho-996698 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
There is a good story locked in somewhere. The first 4 minutes show tremendous potential with the POV view of a coma patient who blinks 'Murder'. This was a great start which was massively let down. That style of story telling is entirely forgotten after the 5 minute mark and we fall into genericism.

The pacing is jarring. There aren't any story beats and the cinematography only consists of close ups, which renders the pacing slow and off putting.

Show us the beautiful setting and let us in on the world these characters live in - but instead we get a nauseating assortment of close up after close up.

Then the characters. The main character is meant to be likeable? There isn't enough development that validates the actions she does. She cheats on her husband in a scene only few minutes after their marriage, and apparently in between those few minutes we're meant to believe the husband did something so awful? Just a few minutes earlier he seemed like a smart and bubbly child in the flashbacks.

I don't regret watching this film, but the director should feel regretful for squandering a cool premise. This would have been more interesting if it was told from the POV of the coma victim, or subvert our expectations if it's told through Lina's point of view.

Towards the end, Robert and Katherine chase Lina outside. Why? They already have Lina's diary which already makes her a suspect of her husbands murder. They chase her because 'we can't let her get to the police'. Why not? You have all the evidence against her.

Sigh, if I write anymore for this review, I would've put more effort into writing this than the writers of this movie. The first 3 minutes are great. The rest isn't.

' Bored out'
dweston-3866915 November 2023
This forgettable Netflix thriller is poorly directed, acted and written that I felt ' locked in' and couldn't do anything to turn it off.

Laura would have loved to have tortured me with this junk!

It's unthrilling in its storytelling- no tension, suspense or action so it doesn't grab the audience from the beginning.

It's look is purely TV , a unfocused ,dimly lit splurge- that midway through Laura thought she was watching a TV show by asking" how many episodes is this?" The only thing frightening and creepy is Famke Janssen's face job!

It's also hilarious to see a hospital utterly devoid of other people/patients: day or night- believe me there's always someone about.

When Netflix finance films for their network - Reptile being a prime example, they do it with style and finesse, here it's tedious, bottom of the barrel mid 90s direct to DVD schlock.

Well, I liked it...
RosanaBotafogo20 April 2024
I finished the film a little afraid, fearing for its uncertain future, almost certain that it would be a big bomb, however it was gaining good contours, and even becoming convincing, the theme is not innovative nor does it differ much from those that address this topic. , But it's really fun to watch, we're waiting for the Twist plot to find out who the good guys and the villains are, nothing very surprising, it's a little boring... It wins and even convinces... Well, I liked it...

When Raphael met Olivia in high school, it was love at first sight. After 10 years of happy marriage and a thriving career as a best-selling author, Raphael has it all - or so he thinks. After a huge argument between the couple, Raphael wakes up in a parallel life where he is single, a ping-pong player and a high school teacher, with a life that is not very interesting and too close to that of his best childhood friend.

Definitely better than 100 feet.
Patient4442 November 2023
I've always been a fan of Famke Beumer Janssen, ever since I saw her in Nip/Tuck. It proved that she has range as an actress, playing throughout time, bad girls, good girls, heroes, superheroes and so on.

Now about Locked In, the only real problem here is that this one has close to no horror in it. It has a Crimson Peak vibe to it, but doesn't get anywhere near it, or say House on Haunted Hill. It is a thriller, a good one to be honest, with a great mix of tension and mystery to it, it will keep you guessing but doesn't offer any scares. I mean except a few dream scenes, as I previously stated, there are no horror elements in this one.

But if you are in the mood for a sort of Spanish thriller, because they really are amazing with this genre, I think you should definitely give it a go. I had fun with it, just a tad anti climatic, I think it could and should have done better with the ending, but all in all, a nice way to pass the time, especially during the night. Good writing, dialogue, excellent cast, good development of the plot and a satisfying conclusion that could have been even better I think.

Locked In, good for what it is, but no horror.

Cheers!

It was anticlimatic, everything was predictable and well, boring.
ceilia-lucas5 November 2023
In this movie Lina is adopted by Kathrine - her dead mother's best friend - to live in a mansion that represents all the luxury and glamour Kathrine is used to but recently lost, as upon her husband's death everything was inherited by Jamie - Kathrine's young stepson.

Will this strange family dynamic prevail or will it all turn into a tragedy?

The movie has good vibes but the story was not strong enough and felt like the characters tension wasn't played out well. It was lacking chemistry and often felt like they all had different ideas about how they should portray the characters.

It was anticlimatic, no big revelations or twists, everything was predictable and well, boring.

It felt like they tried too hard to make it scary or thrilling but failed at the attempt even though they had all these amazing scenery but ultimately failed to give it cinematic justice.

Locked In ... find a key and escape this movie!
roxmewild11 November 2023
Well my initial thought after painstakingly watching this movie through to its predictable conclusion was forget about Locked In the writer should be Locked up for producing a story that was so predictable and boring it was a paint by numbers movie production.

The ridiculous story felt like many of the very old drama stories minus much drama! What really wound me up though was Anna Friels totaly false scouse accent! Yes I am aware that she was born in Rochdale a stones throw from Liverpool but as I was born and still live in Liverpool the accent she used is cringey and not realistic why the writers wanted her to speak like that is beyond me!

All in all definitely a movie to Miss unless it's free to watch and you haven't anything else to watch!

Robert and Lina: despicable!
haroot_azarian23 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
So this was supposed to be a whodunit murder mystery. From pretty early on it was obvious which direction the movie was going in. I despised Robert from his first scene in the movie, because like I said it was obvious which direction the movie was going in.

Lina was the second person I despised, for her selfishness and greed and cruelty, for after all she was an accomplice in Jamie's murder.

I actually liked Katherine. She was straight to the point and sharp with the tongue and quite rightly so. And to be fair I think she intentionally seduced Robert so that Lina would see them.

Contrary to what one reviewer said, I did not find nurse McKenzie's character annoying or irritating. In fact she was very smart and had a rough idea what was going on even before Katherine could communicate. She confronted Lina about creepy Dr. Robert and his over-prescription of painkillers to Jamie, and she knew about Lina's affair with him and she was pretty sure the boat incident was no accident.

I would have preferred another ending, where both Robert and Lina died, because she deserved it too!

Ignore the terrible comments
retababyagyare1 April 2024
So I was half way through and I was ready to write a review, only opened the app to see so many bad reviews.

I got confused and decided to just finish the movie first.

And now I'm wondering why so many bad comments.

This was a good attempt at a movie. It is not as bad as they making it seem.

I loved the story, the acting was okay too.

They tried to bring some twists but they were easy to see through,

Now, this is not some movie where you watch expecting mind blowing stuff. But it's a really chill calm movie you watch to spend the time and actually enjoy watching it.

I think it was great, and you should see it.

What a pile of pants
stevegeach-690558 November 2023
This is proving popular on Netflix but I think that's due to lack of anything else to watch.

I can see what they were trying to achieve, but the execution was poor. The character development was almost negligible, especially the villain, no mention of motive, or why, or background... the whole story felt unrealistic and it was difficult to attach to any of the characters. The setting was good and the atmosphere added to it, but there just wasn't enough to gel it all together. Half way through I realised I'd invested my time into a piece of nonsense but thought it would all be explained.. I was wrong! Don't waste your time.

Entertaining British thriller.
deloudelouvain10 November 2023
Locked In is an okay movie, just good enough to watch once but that's about it. It's categorized as a horror movie but that's totally not the case. It's also categorized as a mystery movie and even though other reviewers also thought it was mysterious I don't really agree with that. If you pay a little attention it's pretty obvious from the start where they are heading to so as a mystery it's disappointing. As a thriller it works though. The cinematography was okay and the acting as well. Femke Janssen is getting older but she still got it. A natural beauty that can act, for that alone it's worth a watch.

A laughable attempt at modern film
cimex-150043 November 2023
To say this was a struggle to watch is an understatement.

It's already a huge issue when you have a weak and unimaginative storyline - but then theres the fact that none of the main characters are at all likeable in any way shape or form, so you're actually rooting for no one at all from the very beginning.

Maybe it's because the entire cast seem to be painfully over acting at every given opportunity; or it's because the characters are just badly written. Spoiler - it's definitely both.

I couldn't help but feel genuinely embarrassed for each of them, because the effort shows they must've thought this would be some kind of success or something...

All the metaphors and cut scenes are just badly copied and pasted from other more successful things, giving it a really cheap feel overall. Like off brand packaging.

Half of the time it feels like a sixth form media project in which students must make an advert for a Mercedes 4x4.

On top of all this, the cinematography is all very one dimensional and it makes the whole thing a yawnfest. It's just embarrassing to watch, let alone to be involved in the creation of.

Definitely one of the worst things I've seen in this day and age. My advice would be not to bother.

Some wasted potential but still a decent thriller
aronharde26 November 2023
For me as a horror movie fan it's always a pleasure to see familiar faces in new horror releases. That being said that this does not guarantee that the movie is going to be a good one.

With this one it's hard because I have seen that many people really dislike it but I think that this movie had some potential and even a couple of strong scenes. The movie is dark, the acting is good and the overall story intriguing. You have some twists and turns that caught me off-guard and the movie has some interesting choices.

On the other hand you have some plot holes and also none of the characters are likeable and it's hard to root for any of them. In some movies this works pretty good but I don't think that this was one of them. I think it was a decent watch and the fact that it is on Netflix makes it easily accessible, so maybe give it a try but lower your expectations. [5,6/10]

Over melodramatic in parts but overall enjoyable.
kjohn-778913 November 2023
To start with IMDB need to adjust their synopsis of this movie, no way is it an horror movie, this was the only reason I watched it.

It's a mystery and thriller and that's about it.

I am going to give this Netflix movie a five star rating, while I did enjoy it, this movie had some real plot holes and some slap in the face scenes which could have been filmed better and tighter to make to movie more nerve racking.

The twists and turns more or less were done properly and left you guessing most of the way through, I also liked the way the film went back and forth from now and the past.

What I thought was a bit silly and could have been done better were scenes like the horse chase scene, some of the back and forth scenes near the end went on for to long.

I also have seen reviews in which some people wanted a better finish to the film, which I get.

This film also went from the doctor is the bad guy, no he's not, the young girl is. Sometimes this was done well, then sometimes you thought get on with it.

A mixed bag but I did enjoy it, would I watch it again, no I wouldn't, would I recommend it, no I don't think so.

Worth a watch.

Not a review just love
thecomfortzone-1581426 November 2023
This movie blew me away. It had my mind going from start to finish. Always wondering whats gonna happen next. I couldn't get my family to watch it quickly enough. It really is a great movie. Just watch it. Don't base it on other peoples expectations. Make your own mind up. But watch it.

I often go to reviews to see what other people thought of a movie just to find out after watching it, that my thoughts differed dramatically.

Only you can tell you if you think a movie is great or not. Reviews don't really help and I stopped reading them a lo g time ago.

HOWEVER.. I found this movie so compelling, so "Trumpian" so messed up and psychologically challenging that I had to come here and just ask you to watch it and see what you think? I myself am in awe.

Shoot me ... not
kosmasp20 November 2023
No pun intended - I understand if some have massive issues with this. It is not easy to get into it. It should be - especially with that intriguing opening. But the movie does not hold up - can not really keep that level. It blinks and stays closed .. to use an analogy that makes sense in the context of the movie and the beginning.

Acting is good, but is that enough for you? The twists are fine too, but a bit over the place. Some ideas are better locked .. away. But jokes aside, if you like b-movie thrillers with suspense that is predictable and characters that are mostly not likeable ... well you could do worse. I really couldn't care for any of them ... but maybe that is the fun of it ... also Famke seems ok to be shown ... not so beautiful (which she still is of course)

Absolute garbage
moore-366362 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Started boring & got even more boring. Physic nurse managed to solve the mystery from 3 letters. Characters seemed to forget their own emotions and relationships every 5 minutes. No layers or twists, nothing that needed any form of thinking and even the action scenes were about as scary as home alone 2.

There's clearly meant to be some form of side story about the relationship between the mother daughter and step daughter but it doesn't delve into it at all. Feels like just some filler since they had absolutely no other content. Was the doctor responsible for the main bloke being mental on his meds? Maybe. Not sure the directors knew either. Women loved him as a brother which meant they also got married? Weird. Not sure the incestuous relationship was necessary or added anything to the movie?

End scene woman taken hostage from hospital, found next a murdered man and police nowhere to be seen or remotely bothered? Not even sure what makes it a 3 and not less.
