Frequently Asked Questions
Our Expeditions: A MudRunner guide attempts to answer most of your burning questions via how-tos and mission walkthroughs, but the game's tutorial still leaves many things unsaid. This page lists your most pressing questions -- if you've got another one, just ask away via the comments.
Expeditions: A MudRunner Questions
An exclamation mark denotes a requirement. For example, if certain trucks are marked with a "!", it means that you have to bring at least one of them. If an item is marked, such as the Seismic Vibrator, it means you'll have to bring it along on the expedition. There are also requirements for cargo, including bringing multiple items. Once you select the right truck or item number to meet the requirement, the exclamation mark will disappear and you're good to go.
What are the Blue Shapes That Can be spotted in Coconino?
Ghosts, of course. The area is home to some ghost towns, so of course you'll be able to spot the occasional ghost, too. If you try to zoom in or drive closer, they disappear. If you want to see them, here are all the Ghost Locations we've spotted.
Are Airdrops Random?
There are both fixed and random airdrops found on the Expeditions: A MudRunner maps -- both are marked on our interactive maps. Fixed Airdrops are rare and usually tied to expedition objectives, but they remain afterwards and you can go back to and rely on them for refueling/supplies needs. Random airdrops appear all over the map (in preset, flat areas or shallows -- not deep in the water) and they're noted as "Possible Airdrops" on our map as their appearance is not guaranteed. Airdrops can be discovered with the help of certain Specialists or by scouting with binoculars or the drone.
Can you bring multiple trucks through a gateway?
Yes, but the game doesn't explain how it works. Check out our explanation on How to Switch Maps With Two Trucks for more.
How do you take photos in Expeditions: MudRunner?
Some missions or tasks feature photo-related objectives. They usually involve taking a photo of a unique feature in the landscape, or even just a pretty view. To complete these photo challenges, move the viewfinder around until the frame turns green (and you'll hear a beep). That means your angle is correct. You now have to adjust your zoom level until the meter on the left also turns green. Finally, adjust your focus. With all three indicators green, you can snap the photo and then hit exit to complete the objective.
Why Can't I Place an Anchor or Use the Jack-Screw?
Expeditions: A MudRunner game can be a bit touchy (=buggy) when it comes to using these recovery items.
In the case of the Jack-Screw, you can only use it if there is sturdy, flat ground nearby (you can't use it in water, for example) and if your truck is upside down and the engine won't turn on. It's meant only as a last resort recovery when your truck's winch and anchors can't be used.
If there is flat ground, you can move the "ghost truck" indicator around nearby your overturned truck and adjust the height up and down. Unfortunately, a post-launch patch designed to avoid getting stuck in the ground overcompensated the requirements to the point where you have to sometimes drop the truck from pretty high up as it requires you to be well clear of any rocks or angled terrain. This can result in the truck bouncing and instantly overturning again -- or taking damage from hitting rocks. There is no fix for this issue, currently. Just be vigilant and angle the truck in a way that prevents hitting rocks or a slope.
For anchors, the rule is that if you can see an area within a limited circle around your truck, you can usually place the anchor there -- with the exception of vertical rock surfaces, rubble, or boulders. Note that anchors can be placed even if your winch isn't operational due to turning over your truck (without an autonomous winch equipped). So always check first if your winch still works.
Move the anchor indicator around to discover "green" areas that may not be apparent due to the camera angle. There are occasionally issues where the anchor can't be moved when you're trying to deploy it. To get around it, move your vehicle slightly and try again. You can increase the number of anchors you carry as well as the range of deployment with the use of Specialist perks.
