Preface
This book is written in a sermon outline format to help explain each chapter of the Book of Revelation. Thirty short sermons are used to help the reader gain a better appreciation of God in the person of Lord Jesus Christ and to see more clearly the major events discussed in the Book of Revelation and also the activities of Lord Jesus Christ since His resurrection and ascension to Heaven.
Some of the introductions of the short sermons are repeated because they are dealing with the same subject matter. No one book can be written about the Book of Revelation that will explain everything that Revelation is revealing. Hopefully this book will help the reader to see more clearly the order in which the events of Revelation occur and gain a better appreciation for God in the person of Lord Jesus Christ and what the Triune Godhead has done and continues to do for fallen mankind. At least one challenge/encouragement or more is given at the end of each message to help us to be more grateful and thankful unto God, and to become better Christians (followers of and witnesses unto Lord Jesus Christ).
Whenever the symbol ‘[KJV]’ is seen with scripture it means that the King James Version of the Bible is being used. Every believer should read the whole Bible (every word) from the beginning to the end!!!
The Seven points of the Gospel of Lord Jesus Christ:
Lord Jesus Christ was born of a virgin female, who had no sexual relationship with a man before His birth, and He lived a perfect life, without committing any sin.
Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the son of mankind, which means that He is the one and only perfect infinite God – Man, He’s one hundred percent human and He’s one hundred percent God for eternity; He’s equally as much human as He is God!
Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross, and He shed His Holy blood, to pay the sin debt of every one of us who believes in Him. He never got married. He was born of a virgin woman and He experienced physical death as a virgin man.
Lord Jesus Christ was buried in a tomb, and He rose from the dead the third day according to the scriptures.
Lord Jesus Christ was seen alive, by His disciples at different times, for forty days after He rose from the grave.
Lord Jesus Christ disciples watched Him as He ascended into heaven in a Cloud out of their sight, and He sent the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost that came fifty days after the resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ, to indwell every believer from generation to generation until the church body is completed, and God the Holy Ghost give us the ability to have a close personal relationship with God in the person of Lord Jesus Christ.
Lord Jesus Christ will return someday for all of us who believes in Him, the living and the dead, and we shall be with Him forever.
CHAPTER 1
1 of 3
Write the things which thou hast seen
Scripture Reference: Revelation 1:1-8
Introduction: The Bible says, "2 Timothy 3:1 - 5 [KJV] ¹This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. ²For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, ⁴Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; ⁵Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. As we continue to see the prophesies of the Bible being fulfilled before our eyes, we cannot ignore the way that the name of Lord Jesus Christ is being used in a profane manner, the same way a vulgar person uses the
F_ _ _ word and the
S_ _ _" word. If we disrespect the name of Lord Jesus Christ, we will also disrespect Him and His authority. How we picture Lord Jesus Christ in our minds will determine how we will or will not serve Him. Every year during the Christmas season many professing Christians like to worship the physical birth of the incarnate Lord Jesus Christ, in the little town of Bethlehem, and there is nothing wrong with doing that, we should worship Lord Jesus Christ for every good reason that we can think of, but Lord Jesus Christ is not a baby anymore, lying in a manger. We need to worship Lord Jesus Christ for whom He is today and every day to come for eternity. We need to move from the baby picture of Lord Jesus Christ in our minds to the picture of a grown man and worship the grown up Lord Jesus Christ. The right view of Lord Jesus Christ is needed for us to serve and worship God correctly.
The title of this message from God is, Welcome to the introduction of the exalted and glorified Lord Jesus Christ.
Lord Jesus Christ is all grown up and He is (and has always been) Almighty God. We need to be mindful of this reality!
In the scripture text God uses the Apostle John to reveal to us three important facts about the exalted/glorified Lord Jesus Christ.
The first important fact about the exalted/glorified Lord Jesus Christ that the Apostle John reveals to us is that, Lord Jesus Christ wants every believer to know what He’s doing in Heaven
. Lord Jesus Christ will not leave us in the dark to wonder whether or not He will keep His promises.
Looking at Revelation chapter 1, verses 1 thru 3, we see that the scripture text says, "Revelation 1:1 - 3 [KJV] ¹The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to show unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: ²Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw. ³Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand." If a person does not understand the book of Revelation, it’s because that person is not a servant of Lord Jesus Christ. The scripture text is letting us know that reading and hearing what God has to say about the future will make the readers and hearers happy (in-God’s-favor), if we live our lives according to what is revealed. The Bible tells us what Lord Jesus Christ said after His resurrection from the dead, "Matthew 28:18 [KJV] ¹⁸And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth." Lord Jesus Christ is not sitting around in Heaven doing nothing and just listening to somebody playing a harp. Lord Jesus Christ is very busy making sure that all prophesies concerning Him come true.
Illustration: Before the Personal Computers (PC) became popular, there used to be mainframe computer systems and most cities and counties had their own computer programmers. One county in the state of Florida hired a new director; a person with an IBM background to replace the county’s NCR mainframe with an IBM mainframe, but nobody told the employees what to expect; therefore some good programmers quit their jobs and found work elsewhere, because they were left in the dark about their future with that county. After the new director came on board, he gave all the remaining mainframe computer programmers an increase in pay to stay, because he needed them to convert the computer code for all the computer programs from NCR to IBM.
There is no need for any of us to think about stopping whatever Lord Jesus Christ has given us to do, because we are not confused or afraid of what’s going to happen to us in the future; Lord Jesus Christ has revealed the future to us in the book of Revelation. None of us should take the attitude that so many unbelievers do, saying that we should eat, drink, and be merry, because when you’re dead you’re done. What this means for us is that Lord Jesus Christ has blessed us by giving us the book of Revelation, so that we can see that He is doing everything that He promised to do and more. Every believer need to read and understand what’s going to happen according to the truth that’s found in the book of Revelation.
The next important fact about the exalted/glorified Lord Jesus Christ that the Apostle John reveals to us is that, Lord Jesus Christ is telling us the truth
. Satan the devil has told mankind a plethora of lies.
Looking again at the scripture text, verses 4 thru 6 of the 1st chapter of Revelation say, "Revelation 1:4 - 6 [KJV] ⁴John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne; ⁵And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, ⁶And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen." In the scripture text the Apostle John introduces the Triune Godhead, starting with God the Father "from him which is, and which was, and which is to come;"; God the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit "and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;"; and Lord Jesus Christ, God the Son "who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth". The scripture text also tells us that Lord Jesus Christ is the faithful witness or truth teller, and how Lord Jesus Christ who loves us has made us believers (the church body of Lord Jesus Christ) a kingdom of priest through His atoning sacrifice of Himself on our behalf.
Illustration: Many years ago, before the invention of the color television, we had black and white TV, and there used to be a television show named "To Tell the Truth". Three individuals would claim to be a certain person, and another person would ask all three individuals several questions and finally try to choose the person that was telling the truth.
Satan the devil has been telling lies to mankind from the very beginning in the Garden of Eden. The devil wants mankind to worship him instead of God! Idolatry, cults, and false religions came about from the lies of the
