New single 'The Sun Doesn't Shine' out now! ☀️
Sola Rosa, the evolving project of Andrew Spraggon, stands as one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most inventive musical exports. Over the past two decades, Spraggon has blended soul, R&B, funk, jazz, hip-hop, and pop into a sound all his own. His warm, polished, and creative style has earned him a global following, with top-tier collaborators contributing along the way—remixes by Tall Black Guy, Hermitude, and DJ Vadim tell part of the story.
Since winning Best Electronic Release for Solarized at the 2001 New Zealand Music Awards, Spraggon has crafted a dynamic career. From stages at Secret Garden Party and Green Man, to plaudits from Rolling Stone and Mojo, Sola Rosa’s sound has reached fans in Berlin, São Paulo, and beyond.
By the release of 2020’s Chasing The Sun, his first full album in five years, Spraggon’s creative momentum was clear. Now, as 2025 marks 25 years of Sola Rosa, there’s a sense of transition. A new EP, gathering tracks that have been simmering, will launch early in the year. This release assembles a mix of vocalists, musicians, and writers from New Zealand and beyond, serving as a fitting close to this chapter of Sola Rosa’s journey.
This EP marks an end of sorts. While collaboration remains central, Spraggon is already deep into a new album set for late 2025, which will see him taking a more focused, central role. The next phase brings his signature production to the forefront for both longtime fans and new listeners alike.
