Vladimir COSMA arrived in Paris in 1963, and it was in 1968 that Yves Robert entrusted him with his first film music for Alexandre le Bienheureux, a confirmed success reinforced in 1972 with the music for Le Grand Blond avec une chaussure noire. Since then he has composed more than 500 scores for cinema (Les Aventures de Rabbi Jacob, Diva, Le Grand Blond avec une chaussure noire, La Boum, Le Bal, L’As des As, La Chèvre, Un Eléphant ça trompe énormément, Le Père Noël est une ordure, La Gloire de mon Père, Le Château de ma Mère, Le Dîner de cons…) and TV series (L’Amour en héritage, Michel Strogoff, Chateauvallon, Les Aventures de David Balfour…). He approached and developed different musical styles: jazz (with famous soloists such as Chet Baker, Toots Thielemans, Don Byas, Stéphane Grappelli, Jean Luc Ponty, Philip Catherine), songs (for Nana Mouskouri, Marie Laforêt, Diane Dufresne, Richard Sanderson, Lara Fabian, Herbert Léonard, Mireille Mathieu, Nicole Croisille…), folk music (works performed by Gheorghe Zamfir, Syrinx, Liam O’Flynn, Romane), as well as classical compositions for choir and symphonic orchestra, concertos for violin, euphonium, trumpet, violoncello, mandolin, trombone… chamber music, a divertissement for narrator and symphony orchestra Eh bien ! Dansez maintenant from the Fables of Jean de la Fontaine, the opera Marius et Fanny adapted from Marcel Pagnol, (with Roberto Alagna, Angela Gheorghiu, Jean-Philippe Lafont…) and recently the adaptation of the same opera into jazz version (with Tom Novembre, Hugh Coltman, André Minvielle and Irina Baiant in the principle roles). At the same time he is devoted to orchestral conducting and the re-writing of his film music for concert performance, appearing in France and elsewhere with major symphony orchestras and prestigious soloists (Ivry Gitlis, Vadim Répin, Wilhelmenia Fernandez, Patrice Fontanarosa, l’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, l’Orchestre National de France…).
Vladimir Cosma has received many awards, both French and International (two Césars, two 7 d’Or...), as well as numerous Gold and Platinum discs.
