"You don't sound like anyone else" said Danny Thompson - legendary bass player for Nick Drake - about folk-blues artist Conil.
Tom Waits engineer and GRAMMY-winner Tchad Blake said "Strange Part of the Country is an awesome album! I still listen to it, years after working on it".
Many people seem to agree with this. The album never conformed to any current trends and has remained timeless.
Now people are discovering this album and it is becoming an all-time favorite.
Fleetwood Mac legend Peter Green liked Conil's music so much he wanted to record with with him after hearing "Round Midnight" - Conil's homage to the jazz greats.
When the album was released in the UK, it received some great press - "A strange brew indeed. Four stars - Q Recommends" from Q magazine (then Britain's biggest selling music monthly); "One of the most original artists out there", wrote Blues Matters in a glowing review, who made him the cover star the next month.
Searching for a second album, Conil left England after Strange Part of the Country came out and has spent the last ten years living all over the United States and Europe.
It was in New Orleans, and then a couple of years later in Berlin, that he found his way.
