Imagine you are a singer and performer, and the doctor tells you, you might never be able to do what you love most and, not the least, what you do for a living.
This is exactly what happened to Elize several years ago, when her ENT-specialist told her she suffered from a congenital defect on her vocal cords. Surgery was necessary, but there was no assurance that Elize would ever be able to sing again.
However, Elize does not give up easily.
A long rehabilitation period was needed, which involved absolute vocal rest – no talking, at all –. The agenda therefore being cleared, Elize decided to take on an opportunity she had never been able to do: go to America! Three months at first, but three months became four and eventually, the American adventure took 8 years.
But in these 8 years, Elize managed to build a career on her own terms. She picked up songwriting and wrote several songs for television shows. “I didn’t even know this business existed!”, she explains. However unknown to the field, her songs were used for shows such as Queer Eye, Dance Moms, X Factor and FOX SPORTS.
At the time of her injury, Elize was already five years into her career. After her first single Shake, in 2004, Elize went sky-high with the following single Automatic, which is still stuck in the minds of many of us. Besides singing, Elize is talented within the areas of modeling and presenting as well, which resulted in an impressive portfolio with brands such as Heineken and Forever 21 and TV-show LA-Breakfast. However, here heart desired one thing most: to be back at the singing game again: “Making music is still the one thing I love to do most. I truly hope people like to hear my songs.”
And so, three years ago, Elize left Los Angeles to pick up her music-career again in The Netherlands. She signed a contract at Redline Music and released Say Goodbye and Shoot Me Down (Light It Up).
“Who knows it helps people feel stronger or maybe they just like to dance to my music. That’s great! Because that’s what it’s all about: sharing emotions. Joy, feeling strong, whatever: bring it in and let’s do this together! I’m looking forward to it!”
