Michele Braga is a multi award winning composer based in Rome (Italy), where he was born in 1977. Since early childhood, he was an avid listener of any musical genre without prejudice: from hard rock to Chopin’s preludes, from 80s pop music to Italian songwriters, and everything in between.
Braga started as a self-taught musician, and later perfected his skills studying composition and orchestration under M° Alessandro Cusatelli.
Much of Michele Braga’s musical corpus consists of scores for movies and TV series. His first foray in the world of movie soundtracks is the 2007 film “Come tu mi vuoi” by Volfango de Biasi. With the 2006 short film “Basette“, Braga started his collaboration with Gabriele Mainetti, which continues to this day. It is indeed still with Gabriele Mainetti that Braga had the chance of scoring the music for “Lo chiamavano Jeeg Robot”, a 2015 Italian superhero-themed full feature. As a result of his work on this movie, Michele Braga received the 2016 “Ciak d’oro” award for best soundtrack and was nominated for the 2016 “Nastri d’argento” and “David di Donatello” awards.
In 2020 Michele Braga received the “Soundtrack Stars Award 2021” for Freaks Out by Gabriele Mainetti (premiered at 78th Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia).
Of notice are also Braga’s scores for the film “Dogman” by Matteo Garrone (Premiered at the 71th Festival de Cannes) for wich he was nominated best composer at the David di Donatello 2019; the scores for the films by Carlo Verdone, “Benedetta Follia“ (Nominated Best Original Song at Nastri D’argento 2018) and “Si vive una volta sola“; the soundtracks for the films by director Sydney Sibilia (“Smetto quando voglio“, “L’incredibile storia dell’isola delle rose” (Nominated Best Composer at the David di Donatello 2021 and Best Original Music at the Italian Golden Globe 2021), Gianluca Jodice (“Il Cattivo Poeta”, Award for Best Score at the Barcelona-Sant Jordi International Film Festival).
Michele Braga has composed music for the works of some of the most recognized Italian directors: Matteo Garrone, Gabriele Mainetti, Carlo Verdone, Giuseppe Piccioni, Roberto Andò, Marco Risi, Sydney Sibilia, Sebastiano Riso, Alessandro Capitani, Volfango De Biasi, Paola Randi, Carlo Lavagna, Giulia Steigerwalt, Edoardo Falcone and many others.
Besides cinema, Michele Braga’s collaborations with TV productions are also worthy of notice. To wit, he created the soundtracks for the Netflix series “Generazione56k”, “Luna Park”, and “An Astrological guide for broken hearts” among others.
Since 2015, Braga has been collaborating with the Italian National Synchronized Swimming Team for the World Championships in Kazan (Russia), and for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (Brasil). He later composed the song “A scream from Lampedusa”, a composition about the drama, love and hope of so many families who flee every day from the hatred of war, purposely to be used as the backing theme by swimmers Manila Flamini and Giorgio Minisini at the 2017 World Swimming Championships in Budapest; the duo’s performance scored the first historic gold medal for Italian synchro.
For the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Braga has composed “A song from Humans and Machines”.
