From the outset of her career, the work of PJ Harvey has commanded attention. A multi-instrumentalist, she is primarily a vocalist, guitarist and pianist.
Her catalogue features ten studio albums, her most recent release being 2023’s Garmmy-nominated I Inside the Old Year Dying. She has collaborated with a wide range of musicians including Thom Yorke, Nick Cave, Tricky, Sparklehorse, Josh Homme, John Parish, Pascal Comelade, Gordon Gano, Ramy Essam and Mark Lanegan.
Her accolades include an MBE for services to music and an Honorary Degree in Music at Goldsmiths. She is the only artist to have been awarded the Mercury Music Prize twice, in 2001 for Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea, and 2011 for Let England Shake, alongside eight Brit Award nominations, eight Grammy Award nominations and two further Mercury Prize nominations. She has authored two books of poetry, The Hollow of the Hand and Orlam.
PJ Harvey has either composed or appeared-on several soundtracks for theatre, television, film, and videogames. In theatre she scored for Director Ivo Van Hove’s 2018 adaptation of All About Eve starring Gillian Anderson and Lily James, and has worked on numerous productions by acclaimed Director Ian Rickson, including The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? starring Damian Lewis and Sophie Okonedo, Electra starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Jack Lowdon, and 2024’s London Tide for the National Theatre.
For television she composed the score for Shane Meadow’s arresting drama The Virtues starring Stephen Graham, and co -composed with Tim Phillips for Sharon Horgan’s Bad Sisters 1 & 2 for Apple TV. Her music was used extensively throughout series 2 of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, and across numerous other award-winning TV productions. In 2018 PJ Harvey recorded a version of ‘An Acre of Land’ for Clio Barnard’s film Dark River starring Ruth Wilson, Mark Stanley and Sean Bean. Her song “Prayer at the Gate” from I Inside the Old Year Dying plays across the closing credits of the multi-award-winning videogame Alan Wake 2 for Remedy/Epic Games.
