Vinx music career began after a chance encounter with musician Taj Mahal at the Montreaux Jazz Festival, Switzerland, in 1978. His music career quickly took off with Tom Jones recording his song “Touch My Heart”, featuring on Grammy winning projects and going on tour with the likes of Rickie Lee Jones and Teena Marie, among others. A European tour was how he ended the 80’s and was soon followed by the release of his debut album “Rooms In My Fatha's House,” which features appearances by Taj Mahal, Herbie Hancock, Sheryl Crow, Branford Marsalis, Sting, Roscoe Brown and Mother’s Finest, among others. Vinx went on tour with Sting to be the opening act on over 189 dates on Sting’s Soul Cages World Tour.
With a lifetime spent creating, collaborating and sharing his music, Vinx has recorded and written with artists including Stevie Wonder, Sting, Herbie Hancock, Sheryl Crow, Branford Marsalis, Ernie Watts, Taj Mahal, Rickie Lee Jones, Darius Rucker, Vance Gilbert, Cassandra Wilson, Brenda Russell, Cher and many others. His songs have been recorded by numerous artists including Tom Jones and Will Downing, as well as featuring in The Lion King, Northern Exposure, a Sprite commercial and more.
Vinx has released numerous solo albums (Although his first three albums: "Rooms in My Fatha's House", "I Love My Job" and "The Storyteller" are currently unavailable anywhere except his website), as well as collaborating with others to release music as the Groove Heroes (a supergroup of extraordinary musicians) and toured with former Living Colour band members as Jungle Funk, (you can find Jungle Funk listed separately on here) paving the way for what would later be called jungle (dance) music.
He is undoubtedly one of the most gifted improvisational vocalists performing today, with songs ranging from jazz to funk, bossa nova to blues and back again. Soaring vocals, intricate layered melodies and grooves mark Vinx’s signature style. Infused with tastes from around the world, his songwriting is a tour de force combining the best in storytelling with the heart and soul of a true balladeer.
After illness forced Vinx to take a back seat for a few years, in 2024 he is planning to write and record new music as well as tour again.
