Bassist, composer, and educator Andrey Gonçalves is an Illinois transplant Brazilian musician. His modern approach of composition techniques celebrates vocabulary diversity by code-switching and combining music styles he grew up listening to. Born in 1980 in Vitória (Brazil), Andrey was raised in a family that celebrated different cultural backgrounds. He started on guitar at the age of 5 and moved to the electric bass at 12. He found his main inspirations in Jaco Pastorius, Ray Brown, Geddy Lee, and Avishai Cohen throughout his career. Andrey released his solo debut “Nocturnal Geometries” in November 2020. Joined by Robert Brooks, Ethan Evans, Kurt Reeder, Robert Sears, and Andy Wheelock, he relied on his bandmates’ musical creativity to express his musical thoughts.
