Midori Seiler, Bavarian-Japanese daughter of two pianists, grew up in Salzburg. Her musical education took her to Basel, London and Berlin. As a member of the Academy for Ancient Music (AAM) Berlin, Midori experienced the ensemble's international breakthrough, with the decade from 2005 to 2014 seeing her take the concertmaster's rostrum on occasion.
Since 2016 she has been the artistic director of the BachCollektiv of the Köthen Bach Festival. Midori Seiler is one of the few specialists in historical performance practice who feel equally at home in various eras of music: Baroque violin concertos – as soloist, for instance, in diverse Baroque ensembles (Tafelmusik Orchestra Toronto, Budapest Festival Orchestra) – are as much a part of her repertoire as the Classical/Romantic concertos for violin by Mendelssohn and Beethoven together with authentic-sound ensembles like Anima Eterna, AAM and in particular Concerto Köln.
After a professorship at the Mozarteum University Salzburg she returned to Weimar in 2017 as Professor at the Franz Liszt Conservatoire. Midori Seiler was awarded with the 2015 Mozart Prize of Saxony in recognition of her responsibly undertaken artistic and educational activity in support of the oeuvre of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart".
