Andrés Landero was born in San Jacinto, his father was the piper Andrés Guerra and his mother Rosalba Landero. At home, the little boy grew up in a musical environment. From the age of eight he got used to visit the mountains and learned the sounds of nature, which later helped him in his artistic vein as a composer. In 1950 he began his career. At the same time he became known as a performer because he visited all the festivities and corralejas that took place in those towns. Since his youth his ability was to play accordion. He bought his first accordion from Pacho Rada. He was instructed by Delia Zapata Olivella to be part of her dance group that was touring Europe. He also remembers La hamaca grande, composed by Adolfo Pacheco, since he arranged it and was the first to play it.
He formed his own group and began to participate in competitions where he was a winner. He has been proclaimed "Rey de la cumbia" in El Banco, Magdalena, "Rey sabanero" in Sincelejo, "Rey" in Arjona, Bolívar (1969) and "Rey del festival bolivarense del acordeón" (1968). He participated five times in the Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata achieving two second places and two third places. His first group was formed with Eduardo Lora as singer, Carlos Caro on the guacharaca and José Tobías on the caja. The travels began and Landero toured Venezuela, Panama, Dominican Republic and Mexico. In Mexico, he was declared "King of Cumbia".
