Ahi vienen los candomberos
Miguel Ángel Nemer Serrón, better known by his stage name Yábor (Montevideo, September 11, 1950) is a Uruguayan singer-songwriter, guitarist, composer, poet and writer known mainly for his artistic work in the field of Afro-Uruguayan music.
Heir to the murguera and candombera tradition of the Montevideo neighborhood of La Unión, Yábor has transcended the borders of Uruguay as a singer-songwriter and composer. On the guitar, on the accordion and on the drums he overturns the ancestral respect for the African roots of universal music, with a passionate work, which he defines "with essence". The musical and literary wealth that he summarizes in his work "Lo Mejor De Mi", book and CD, today constitute one of the pillars of River Plate folklore.
He began studying it when he was just six years old. At the age of fourteen, he graduated as Professor of the Schubert Conservatory of Montevideo; with piano, accordion and guitar studies. He immediately joined the Pop band "Los Profetas" and the River Plate folklore group "Los Troperos del Alba", with whom he recorded a Double Disc (1968) and traveled to Chile.
He debuted as a soloist in 1969, in Uruguay, interpreting his own songs and leading the then young side of Uruguayan popular song (1970/72). In 1973 he made his debut in Buenos Aires, together with Horacio Gianello, of the group "Arco Iris". He recorded his first album accompanied by Domingo Cura (percussion), "Chachi" Ferreyra (flutes), Alfredo Remus (double bass), Horacio Gianello (drums) and León Gieco (who collaborated as a special guest in choirs). In 1974 he settled in the Argentine Republic, alternating his performances on both banks of the Plata. He received the "COSTA '94" Award in La Lucila del Mar, Province of Buenos Aires and the Distinction for the "Best Musical Show" of the summer season at the National Library, in 1998, Buenos Aires. The African countries (O.U.A.) recognize him as a permanent guest of honor in their celebrations.
In 2004, R. O. del Uruguay settled in Colonia del Sacramento, carrying out his artistic work in different cultural centers. It has been presented since the beginning of that year in a successful cycle at the Victoria (Bar and Rest) located in the traditional Historic District, extending from that point to the rest of the country, with its music and its latest Theatrical Musical for all audiences "El Candombe de Holidays". He alternates his jobs on the neighboring shore with Argentina and the interior of this country. In the final mix is his new record production "Todo por amor", which has his career printed, bringing a new air to the style already imposed by the fusion of his proposal and at the same time his customary simplicity.
