Patrick Martin is the small-town boy who wants to conquer the big city. He’s an old soul with a young spirit who rules the stage, the bold, brash performer who spends his spare time caring for abandoned animals at his local dog shelter. He’s a contradiction, but it all kind of makes sense when you let his potent songwriting wash over you.
Brought up in Saukville, Wisconsin, he always felt like the odd one out in his friendship group. “Where I come from is like country folk… Sports are our biggest thing. It’s a unique thing for me to follow this path, because I definitely don’t fit in quite with the culture there.” A singular voice, Patrick Martin retains his small-town sensibilities, but transports them to a bigger stage. An emphatic performer, his songwriting demands to be heard in stadiums
Debut single ‘Cinema Love’ was a dynamic, endearing intro, a kind of final farewell to the salad days of a pivotal relationship. It was followed by the darkening cloud of ‘Stranger Nights’, a tale of curb-crawling around a university town.
A sense of connection is what pushes Patrick Martin forwards. New single ‘Both Of You’ kicks off a partnership with British producer Kid Harpoon (Florence + The Machine, Harry Styles), it adds a punk edge, a sense of Joe Strummer’s righteous fury. Blessed with a Springsteen-esque vocal, it’s about betrayal, from the point of view of the person left behind.
Just 12 months ago Patrick Martin was working in the Apple store in LA – now he’s meeting the people at the very top. Setting his eyes on the biggest prize of all, Patrick Martin wants to take his music around the world. Constantly writing, he’s already plotting his debut album.
