Disney fans believe that they have figured out who Riley for Inside Out grows up in be within the animated universe.

Thanks to a theory shared by Instagram user Asheley Baca (@asheleyspam), Inside Out fans are now questioning whether the beloved character grows up to become the mother in one of the studio's most famous films.

Asheley stated in the clip: 'Took me 24 years to realize Riley from Inside Out is actually Andy's mom.'

The clip then shows a snippet of young Riley from the movie before cutting to a clip of Andy's mom as shown in Toy Story 4.

'Now it all makes sense,' Asheley wrote in the captions.

Indeed, both Riley and Andy's mum have fair blonde hair and blue eyes - while the pair also have a similar face shape.

Some fans were convinced as one commented: 'Not going to lie. Andy's mom and Riley did look similar.'

'Hmm, the resemblance is pretty uncanny, I'll admit,' another wrote, while a third added: 'NO WAY THATS CRAZY.'

Another Instagram user commented: 'I think that the Pixar movies are all in the same universe, there's no way that's a coincidence.'

However, most comments strongly disagreed as one person commented: 'Y'all Toy Story takes place in the 90s, inside out was placed in the 2010s.'

Another person pointed out: 'The fact you started with "it took me 24 years to realize..." about a movie that isn't even 10 years old, should be your first clue that you are wrong.'

'The movie isn't even 15 years old, it's impossible Toy Story is based in the 90s, Inside Out is literally modern day - she's seen with a MacBook Pro on FaceTime,' another person added.

Meanwhile, a Reddit user also highlighted why the characters likely aren't the same person despite their very similar appearance.

'Riley has a laptop in the movie, meaning it probably takes place around now-ish,' the user wrote. 'So that would mean that Toy Story takes place in around 2035ish? Not very likely.'

The clip also showed the links between multiple Disney films such ash Toy Story, Turning Red, A Bugs Life, and Monsters Inc.

Again, viewers in the comments argued that it could the similarities are just 'Easter Eggs' - where animators give a little nod to each film in other movies.

One person commented: 'Guys, most of them are just the animators reusing assets to make the workload easier.'

'Or maybe, hear me out... Disney wanted to take shortcuts and reused assets?' another fan stated.

While a third explained: 'Nope, not at all. Inside Out and Turning Red are part of the same universe, but that's it.

'Disney has since the very early years reused/recycled animation from its other movies. Robin Hood, Snow White, and The Sword in the Stone are prime examples!'

Pixar first released Inside Out in 2015, receiving critical acclaim for its raw approach to the emotional turmoil of children.

Nine years later, the sequel follows the protagonist into high school and the arrival of four new emotions.

Its release in June saw the film smash box office records after bringing in more than $1 billion in the first 19 days of its release - the fastest ever for an animated film at the time.

Back in 2017, Disney has released a video that highlighted how many of their animated films are part of the same universe.

The video revealed many of the clever clues and inside jokes that subtly linked all of the films and prove the characters exist side-by-side.

From a Nemo toy in Monsters Inc to a Toy Story character in Up!, fans were delighted to see the links in the fun clip.
