Durham have bossed the game this evening thanks to a club record-breaking and unbroken stand of 268 for the fifth wicket between David Bedingham (177) and Colin Ackermann, who is on 111 and no doubt doesn't worry a jot about the so called Nelson.

The lead is 139 and a dispiriting session of play from a Lancashire perspective comes to an end.

They had Durham 99-4 at one point!

The partnership with David Bedingham is a gargantuan 254.

Make that 255 as David Bedingham pushes a single to mid wicket for a club record fifth wicket stand.

Colin Ackermann misses an attempted cut but gets forward to the next ball, pushing into the off side for one.

David Bedingham drives through the off side for one and that's the 250 partnership for the fifth wicket in 336 balls.

Ackermann gets two more flayed through cover point and that's the 350 and a third batting point in 81 overs.

That's his highest score in a bumper season, pushing his average ever further beyond 80.

In stark contrast to the games further south.

Tom Aspinwall bowls short and David Bedingham pulls square for one.

A Tom Aspinwall bouncer is ruled no ball on height and the next ball is pulled to backward square by Colin Ackermann for one.

One more clipped to fine leg by Bedingham takes him to 149.

They've eventually given in at Chelmsford where Essex would have been desperate to cement their advantage over Nottinghamshire with further wickets on day two.

But they remain firmly on top thanks to centuries from Tom Westley and Michael Pepper.

Notts lost skipper Haseeb Hameed early in their reply and will be eyeing valuable batting points on day three now it seems victory is out of the question.

David Bedingham has passed the 1,000 run barrier in the County Championship for the third time today.

At 1,058 runs this is also his best season in the format. And he now has six centuries in the season. The club record of seven was set by Keaton Jennings - the current Lancashire skipper - when he played for Durham in 2016.

Bedingham scored 101 and 103 against Lancashire in Blackpool back in May. So he now has three centuries in three innings against them this year.

His stand of 182 with Colin Ackermann, who has 74, is also Durham's highest fifth wicket partnership against The Red Rose.

The visitors look flat in the field and haven't taken a wicket for 41 overs. I think that's everything for now.

Still no sign of play at Chelmsford - but no sign of an abandonment either.

Might they able to squeeze a few more overs in this evening?

One of the most one-sided days of cricket you could ever wish to see.

Hampshire scored 190 runs with only three wickets intact before skittling the Kent top order. Division One survival looks impossible on showings like that.

Kent's bowling was aimless and unthreatening, but Tom Prest's third century of the summer was stunning. So was Brad Wheal's maiden first-class half-century and Mo Abbas' first double-figure score for Hampshire.
