Interstate (typeface)

Interstate is a digital typeface designed by Tobias Frere-Jones in the period 1993–1999, and licensed by Font Bureau. The typeface is closely related to the FHWA Series fonts, a signage alphabet drawn for the United States Federal Highway Administration in 1949.

Frere-Jones' Interstate typeface, while optimal for signage, has refinements making it suitable for text setting in print and on-screen, and gained popularity as such in the 1990s. Due to its wide spacing, it is best suited for display usage in print, but Frere-Jones later designed another signage typeface, Whitney, published by Hoefler & Frere-Jones, that bears a resemblance to its ancestor while being less flamboyant and more economical for general print usage, in body copy or headlines.

The terminals of ascending and descending strokes are cut at an angle to the stroke (see lowercase t, and l), and on curved strokes (see lowercase e and s), terminals are drawn at a 90° angle to the stroke, positioning them at an angle to the baseline. Counters are open, even in the bold and bold condensed weights, further contributing to legibility. Punctuation is based on a rectangular shape, while official FHWA punctuation is based on a circular shape.

Interstate (song)

Interstate is the first single from Tear the Signs Down, the third studio album by Welsh alternative rock band The Automatic. The single was released on 6 December, and marks the first release through the band's own record label, Armored Records.

Music and lyrics

Similarly to previous single "Steve McQueen", "Interstate" is considered a bridge between previous record "This Is a Fix" and "Tear the Signs Down". Lyrically and musically however the track is more like material from debut album Not Accepted Anywhere, with the use of synthesizer keyboards and three part vocals - predominantly from Robin Hawkins and Paul Mullen, with backing vocals throughout from James Frost. The track was written and recorded at Warwick Hall of Sound, and according to Paul Mullen was one of the easiest tracks to write, taking mere hours. The lyrics "freedom, no stress, being away from everything and basically driving along a big long road to God knows where" refer to their split with former record label, B-Unique, as well as their experiences of recording previous album This Is a Fix abroad in Los Angeles in 2007.

Maryland Route 3

Maryland Route 3 (MD 3), part of the Robert Crain Highway, is the designation given to the former alignment of U.S. Route 301 from Bowie, Maryland, USA, to Baltimore. It is named for Robert Crain of Baltimore. It is unique in Maryland in that it has a business route and a truck route which do not connect to their parent; however, the business route is also a part of the Robert Crain Highway. MD 3's current orientation is vestigial from the construction of Maryland's freeway system.

Route description

MD 3 begins within the modified cloverleaf interchange of John Hanson Highway (Interstate 595, better known as US 50) and Robert Crain Highway (US 301). Within the interchange, US 301 exits Crain Highway northbound and joins US 50 eastbound; meanwhile, Crain Highway continues northbound, beginning MD 3. After passing through another interchange with Belair Drive, containing continuing connections from the US 50/US 301 interchange, MD 3 turns northeastward, widening to eight lanes and intersecting MD 450 from the west. Here, MD 450 joins MD 3 for a short distance, crossing the Patuxent River and entering Anne Arundel County, leaving to the east approximately half a mile later.

In psychology, memory is the process in which information is encoded, stored, and retrieved. Encoding allows information from the outside world to be sensed in the form of chemical and physical stimuli. In the first stage the information must be changed so that it may be put into the encoding process. Storage is the second memory stage or process. This entails that information is maintained over short periods of time. Finally the third process is the retrieval of information that has been stored. Such information must be located and returned to the consciousness. Some retrieval attempts may be effortless due to the type of information, and other attempts to remember stored information may be more demanding for various reasons.

"Memories" is a song by French disc jockey David Guetta featuring American rapper Kid Cudi. It was released in February 2010 as the fourth single from Guetta's fourth studio album, One Love. The song became a top five hit in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Australia, the Netherlands, Finland, Poland, New Zealand, France and Ireland. It charted within the top ten in Germany, Hungary, Switzerland and Denmark. The music video was filmed in Miami and directed by Keith Schofield. It was released in the United States as the album's fourth single.

Critical reception

Robert Copsey of Digital Spy gave the song a positive review stating: "Here he drafts in Kid 'Day N' Nite' Cudi to lay down the vocals over his trademark piano-backed beats. All the makings of a Guetta classic are present and correct, and Cudi's nonchalant, mellow vocals are pleasant enough, but it all feels that bit too familiar. It's hard to avoid the conclusion that 'Memories' adds nothing new to a sound that seemingly took over the world in '09 – not that anyone's going to grumble when it comes on at Oceana this Friday night, of course" .
