Al Ahly was founded by Omar Lotfi in 1907, as a gathering place for Cairo's students' unions in the struggle against colonisation. The Ahly, meaning "national", was chosen, and Englishman Mitchell Ince became the club's first president. In the absence of a national league, Al-Ahly initially took part in regional competitions, including the Sultan Hussein Cup, which they won seven times between 1917 and 1938.
In the 1980s the club became successful on a continental level, winning the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1982 and 1987. They triumphed again in the renamed competition in 2001, 2005, 2006, 2008 under the coaching of the Portuguese Manuel José and 2012, then finally 2013 making them the most crowned team in Africa, with 8 Champions League titles, four Cup-Winners' Cups, six Super Cups and one Afro-Asian Club Championship.
Al-Ahly Sports Cultural & Social Club (Arabic: النادي الأهلي الرياضي الثقافي الاجتماعي) is a Libyan football club based in Benghazi, Libya. Mohammed Bashir Al-Mogherbi was the first president of the club. Al-Ahly Benghazi has its roots in a political party, the Omar al Mukhtar society.
The club won 5 cups in a successful period from 1980 to 1996. Al-Ahly Benghazi was made a professional football club in 1947, although they had existed years before then. Al Ahly is the most supported club in Benghazi and is famous in Libya for its passionate, loyal and sometimes violent crowds, who stood by the club through frustrating times.
In 2000, the club's stadium was demolished by the Libyan government, supposedly destroying records, trophies and medals of the club. The demolition was allegedly carried out in response to Al-Ahly fans insulting Saadi Gaddafi by dressing a donkey in a shirt baring his squad number, but other sources pointed to the burning a few days before of the Libyan Football Federation offices in Benghazi by angry Al-Ahly fans as the matter. The club was then given an indefinite ban which lasted until 2005. Saadi Gadafi had denied all the allegations.

They have not won the title since the 1999–2000 season.
The club's crest consists of a green and white background, with a torch placed on an outline of Libya. The torch is meant to signify independence for the nation, as it was achieved just months after the club was founded. The club's crest changed after it won its 10th Libyan Premier League title in 2000, with a star being placed on top.
Alahli's main rivalry is with Al-Ittihad. Every time I'm around you
I'm caught by surprise
A sense of electric anticipation
Rolls into me when you smile
And I know that you're filled by emotion
'cause I see it in the tear
That you hide
Girl I don't want you to go
'n I don't need you to know
If forever is a part of your life
All I ask of you
Is hear your heart
All I ask of you
Is trust it babe
They call love "illusion"
They say "falling in love's a mistake"
"it could be just about anybody"
But I don't see it that way
Hey I know what's in you
Because I can feel it too
And I've never been more scared in my life
'n I don't want you to go
'n girl I don't need to know
If forever's what I see in
Your eyes
Hook
Just as the night
Knows the sun's comin' home
Trust that our love
