MONDAY MOTIVATION 👊 Sarah Perry has set a new Backyard Ultra UK women’s record of 59 laps (245.8 miles). That’s equivalent to nine consecutive marathons run over two-and-half days. The INOV8 athlete crushed her own previous record by 18 laps when competing in the Backyard Ultra National Team Championships. Running as part of a UK team made up of 15 male and female long-distance specialists, Sarah once again demonstrated amazing resilience. She was the last runner standing after all others - including runner-up Alex Sweet who did 58 laps - had dropped. Backyard Ultras involve runners completing laps (known as yards) of 4.167 miles on the hour, every hour. Runners drop out if they don’t complete a lap within the allotted hour, or fail to make the start line for the next lap. The last runner standing is the winner. Sarah was crewed by her partner Luke, who helped her refuel and rest between each lap. Prior to the 2024 Team Championships (which sees events - some still on-going - being staged across the globe) the world women’s record stood at 74 laps, held by Jennifer Russo. The overall record is 108 laps, run by fellow American Harvey Lewis. Sarah said: “I was thrilled to be part of the UK team and loved the experience. In our new short film, OVERCOMING URBAN OBSTACLES, Leroy discusses his love of running, the mental freedom it brings amongst hectic surroundings, and the joys of pushing the pace.
