The Transformers Classics UK
From Transformers Wiki
Starting in 2011, IDW Publishing began a series of an intended eight collections under the title The Transformers Classics UK, aiming to reprint the Marvel UK Transformers stories in order of publication, including the Annuals. All in a similar vein to the Classic Transformers and The Transformers Classics reprints. Within each volume, writer James Roberts provided an in-depth historical introduction which charted the development of the Marvel UK universe over the period of time the book's stories covered, as well as presenting each individual story with an introductory essay covering its creation, chronological placement in relation to the US stories, any previous reprintings it may have had, among other goodies. Artist Andrew Wildman provided brand new cover art for each.
The first five volumes were published annually, with the exception of #3, which came out just four months after #2. The fifth was released in 2014, and the sixth was cancelled in November 2018 after numerous delays.[1] Factors contributing to the cancellation include Roberts' departure from IDW, as well as financial woes at the company.[citation needed]
While the series was never finished, in 2022 Roberts did independently publish an article titled Transformers UK — The Comic That (Nearly) Cheated Death which he describes as "a greatly expanded version of the piece I would have written in Transformers UK Classics, had we got to Vol 8."[2] chronicling the final days of the UK series and a hypothetical world were Transformers was actually retooled into a monthly series with issue 333.
