Do not bring your evil here.

In a remote marshland area of Cybertron, Megatronus blazes a trail of destruction in search of the Requiem Blaster. While he finds trudging through the wetlands demeaning, he declares it will all be worth it if he and his acolytes can obtain and unite the Blaster, Matrix of Leadership, and Enigma of Combination, musing to an unknown figure that his actions are all for the sake of their reunion. Unable to find the Blaster, Megatronus sets the marsh aflame in a rage and blasts off into the sky to search elsewhere.

In Cybertron's ancient past, Solus Prime invites Megatronus, her lover, to her forge. She praises him for his defeat of Unicron, but Megatronus states that it was her creation, the Requiem Blaster, that was truly responsible. With its purpose served, Solus suggests destroying the Blaster to prevent its immense power from being misused. Megatronus argues that the weapon would be safer in his possession, insinuating that Solus is distrustful of him.

Elsewhere, a team made up of Megatron, Windblade, Perceptor, and Victorion search through the Primal Swamp for the Blaster. The others are unconvinced that the weapon could be there, but Megatron asserts his research said they were in the right place. Perceptor realizes he speaks of the Book of the Second Prophecies, unable to believe that Megatron could interpret the language in which the ancient text was written. Windblade and Victorion say they are wasting their time and that they all should be repairing Metroplex City and preparing Optimus Prime's funeral, but Megatron points out that they all have reason to follow him, be it Victorion's distrust of him, Perceptor's sense of obligation to Optimus, or Windblade's debt to him.

Suddenly, the group is surrounded as the Dinobots emerge from the reeds. Perceptor and Windblade attempt to calm them, hoping to avoid violence, but Grimlock is having none of it. With all of the infighting on Cybertron brought on by the coming apocalypse, Grimlock refuses to believe Megatron isn't responsible somehow and whacks him into the distance with his tail. The other Dinobots follow suit, with Slug charging at Windblade, Sludge and Snarl pinning Victorion to the ground, and Grimlock and Swoop attempting to drown Perceptor in the swamp. Windblade and Victorion eventually shake their opponents off, freeing Perceptor from his captors, and Victorion uses the energy from her sword to shake the ground below the Dinobots, keeping them from recovering. Windblade attempts to make them listen to reason, but Grimlock again refuses as the five Dinobots all combine into Volcanicus, much to the others' horror.

Quotes

"If by 'research', you mean the Book of the Second Prophecies, Megatron, I was function [sic] when those were written. The finest minds of Cybertron couldn't interpret them."
"Are you sure about that?"

Perceptor underestimates Megatron's intelligence.

"Me Grimlock remember you. Me remember you like to use too many words!"

Grimlock wishes Perceptor would dumb it down a little.

"Skip ahead, would you? We don't have a lot of time."

Megatron just wants to get this episode over and done with.

"Dinobots never listen to friends of Megatron. Now...we just get bigger."

Grimlock prepares to combine.

Notes

Continuity notes

  • The role the Requiem Blaster played in Unicron's destruction was previously alluded to in "The Fight Begins", as was its shared importance with the Matrix of Leadership and Enigma of Combination.
  • Megatron inquires about the responsibility Perceptor feels to Optimus after he was entrusted the Matrix in "Run for Our Lives".
  • Megatron references the debt Windblade owes him for helping save Fortress Maximus from the mind-controlled Combiners in "Consumed".

Errors

  • Megatronus refers to the Blaster, Enigma and Matrix as a "triumvirate"; this is an inaccurate descriptor, as a triumvirate is supposed to comprise three people, not three inanimate objects.

Animation and technical errors

  • The captions at one point misspell Solus Prime's name as "solace" Prime.

Trivia

  • Though Fortress Maximus is mentioned in passing, no explanation is offered for his or Emissary's absence, despite both being there when Megatron asked everyone to follow him in "All Things Must Pass". Maybe they just said no?
  • Rather than his Power of the Primes toy, Grimlock's design is primarily based on his Masterpiece figure. The other Dinobots, however, feature designs based on the third-party "Iron Dibots" figures from Fanstoys. Sigh.
  • Grimlock introdumps the Dinobots like a pro.
  • Slug briefly appears in his robot mode during his fight with Windblade; this marks the only time any of the non-Grimlock Dinobots are seen in robot mode for the whole series.
  • For as much of a role as Combiners have played in the entire Prime Wars Trilogy, this is the first time in any of the three series that we actually see a combination sequence.
