Synopsis

POTP-Ep5-Athenaeum-Sanctorum-Overlord-interrogates-Snarl.jpg

The Dinobots, sans Grimlock, morosely trudge through Primal Swamp, debating whether it was wise to abandon their leader despite his decision to aid Megatron. From an overlook, they spot Overlord and Rodimus Cron, who are still searching for Megatron. Overlord is incensed, desperate for revenge against the one bot to ever defeat him, but Rodimus spots their observers. The Dinobots attempt to flee, but Overlord and Rodimus attack, taking them down in short order. Sensing through the Matrix of Chaos that they know Megatron's whereabouts, Rodimus tortures Sludge until Snarl finally admits the others were headed for a library. Rodimus is possessed by the spirit of Unicron, who identifies the library as the Athenaeum Sanctorum. As a warning message, Unicron kills Sludge and returns control to Rodimus as he and Overlord depart, leaving the other Dinobots to grieve.

Megatron's party arrives in the center of Cataclysm Tundra, though there seems to be nothing there. As Grimlock accuses Megatron of lying, Perceptor attempts to decipher the riddle they were given by the vault, "Toward infinity from the center of the center". Windblade asks Optimus Primal why he would let Megatron have the Requiem Blaster after spending his whole life protecting it; Primal replies that Megatron had sworn he would give his life to protect Cybertron, and tells her to look inside them both to see the truth of his words. Perceptor realizes that "infinity" refers not to the Sanctorum's infinite knowledge, but to a point where two nearly parallel lines in the ground meet. Following the lines, they uncover another hidden door and enter inside.

The group emerges in an enormous chamber, awed both by its size and the fact that Megatron was right. Perceptor accesses an information terminal and begins reading a log about the Requiem Blaster. According to the archives, following Solus Prime's death, the other Primes took back the Blaster and Megatronus exiled himself, searching for a way to revive Solus. The Blaster was sealed away in a vault in Primal Swamp, and the Primes assigned a series of righteous-hearted individuals to protect it, with Primal being its latest guardian. Perceptor begins searching the Sanctorum's data banks for information on Megatronus's master plan, but they are interrupted by the sound of Rodimus attacking Victorion, nonchalantly ripping off her head. His vengeance finally at hand, Overlord lunges at Megatron, promising to make him suffer.

Quotes

"Enough! We're not here to bicker! You all complain more than Starscream!"

Megatron has had enough.

"Too many words. Boring."

Grimlock the scholar.

"Victorion's the lucky one, Megatron. She went quick. But with you, I'm gonna take my sweet... ass... time."

Overlord savors the moment.

Notes

Continuity notes

  • The information terminal plays footage of the flashback sequence from "Without Warning".

Errors

  • No spark emerges from Victorion upon her death, despite the attention paid to this event upon the deaths of other combiners in "Volcanicus". Then again, expecting these cartoons to be consistent with lore elements is pretty foolish by this point.
