Wikipedia Requests

Wikipedia Test-Wiki is for developers.

Please read this: This wiki does not exist for users to test out random nonsense on an exhaustive basis; it's here for developers to check that changes to the code aren't going to cripple the live sites. See also: WP:WWD and WP:NOT. Special:ListGroupRights details available usergroups and their rights.

As a result, administrator status is still not going to be given out to all and sundry. This isn't an arena for you to play with the tools, or mess about, nor is it somewhere you should be testing your bots, etc. - If you want a place that is for you to test out sysop tools, etc, try these sites.

Having said that, if you do need administrator status for a particular reason, request this status and ensure that your userpage here is linked to your home wiki project.

Closing rationale: Trusted user with valid usecase (flagged as sysop per below).
  • Leaderboard (talk · contribs · logs), global contribs 09:01, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Motive for request: Developing and testing phab:T370842. Normally I would do it on the Beta Cluster, but working with its database is tricky, so I need to do it on production. Some wikis have already requested a trial as well.
  • Requested rights: Bureaucrat. This is because some rights I want to test, such as confirmed, can only be assigned by bureaucrats. adminship is OK for now
  • Comments: @Leaderboard: Just FYI, sysops can add confirmed rights here. However, if bureaucratship is still relevant, if I'm not wrong then I think bureaucrats should also have sysop here. One alternative could be that I could flag you at test2wiki (as they have no real rights policies), but if that will not work out for your needs then I think I might be able to proceed with something here at testwiki. EPIC (talk) 09:10, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @EPIC: you're right - I forgot that en.wikipedia allows sysops to manipulate the confirmed flag. Adminship would be enough for now then. Leaderboard (talk) 09:13, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem -  Done for sysop. EPIC (talk) 09:19, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Motive for request: I have been using this wiki to test scripts and gadgets, especially those related to blocking users and blocked users. I need to debug an IP block-related gadget at the moment, but I'm unable to do so here because of the experimentally deployed Temporary Account. So, could I have sysop and interface-admin rights (also) for test2wiki? Thank you for your consideration.

  • Motive for request: Testing temporary accounts and it's consequences for abuse filters and scripts. As I am sure about the fact that I will work with that in the upcoming next years in order to update our local dewiki filters (where I am admin) and my scripts (which are often used globally) it would be great getting the flag permanent to avoid multiple re-requests for adminship in the future.

  • Motive for request: As an admin and checkuser on enwiki, I want to better understand how the new temporary accounts feature works.
  • Requested rights: Admin and checkuser.
  • Comments:  Done for sysop - trusted user with sysop on a content wiki and valid rationale.
On hold for CU, simply because we don't have a real process for granting CU here. On one hand I think it's relatively uncontroversial as requestor holds CU right on a content wiki, on the other hand I'm not too sure here so I'll wait and keep this open until we have a decision. EPIC (talk) 13:37, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. FWIW, I technically do have CU at the moment, granted via my membership on Ombuds Commission, but the constraints of that grant limit my use of that permission here to investigating OC business. Having CU granted localy would legitimize my use of the tool here for the purposes I want, i.e. exploring the new interface. I'll hold off making any checks here until the local grant (and I'm fine with it being denied if need be). RoySmith (talk) 14:01, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I've gone as far as I can on the tests I need to do without having CU, and there's still some flows I need to explore, so striking my statement that I'm fine with being denied :-) RoySmith (talk) 17:11, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @RoySmith, unfortunately, as of now, it is challenging to grant checkuser permissions on testwiki for testing purposes – the CU policy doesn't allow for that. I'm currently working with the Trust and Safety Product team (which is responsible for Temporary accounts) for figuring out what the solution should be for that.
In the meantime, it is possible to test temporary accounts with full checkuser permissions via Patch Demo – phab:T369637 has instructions on that if you're interested.
If you have any notes/feedback regarding how Temporary accounts currently work like, please do feel free to put it at [1], so that it can be actioned. If you prefer placing your feedback to a public venue, phab:T369637 would be a right venue.
If you have any questions about Temporary accounts, please do feel free to let me (or alternatively, @SGrabarczuk (WMF)) know at any time.
Hope this helps. Best, Martin Urbanec (talk) 10:56, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Motive for request: I want to test whether the page curation toolbar is compatible with dark mode.
  • Requested rights: Patrollers
  • Comments: If that is your only reason for requesting this right, I'm just going to note that I just tested it and the answer is no. With that said, while this is a test wiki and this isn't really that sensitive of a permission, I would generally want to see more than 31 global edits (and none between September 2021 and today) before granting this. That combined with the reason provided makes me tend towards declining this. EPIC (talk) 20:33, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

However I do note what Dragoniez informed you about here so please be careful considering we are still in the production cluster. I'm doing temporary again since you don't hold permanent adminship at a content wiki although we can consider extending in the future should the rights still be needed by then. @Titore: Sure, but how long do you think you will need it so that I know for how long to grant it? EPIC (talk) 07:24, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Closing rationale: No local admin / importer rights in production wikis and blocked in two projects. Please use the tools that are listed on Wikipedia:Requests/Tools instead.
@Cactusisme: You don't have local import or sysop rights on a production wiki, is there anything in particular you will need import rights for, and if so, what will you need it for? Import is quite serious stuff and can mess up quite a bit if used incorrectly, even on a test wiki. EPIC (talk) 16:43, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Template importing? Cactusisme (talk) 00:03, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Could you be a little more specific; what will you need to import templates for? To test before using it in production? Otherwise I'm not sure what you will need it for as this is a not a wiki for testing rights but rather a wiki for developers to test their stuff before taking it to production to ensure that it's not going to break stuff. Like I mentioned, importupload is a cautious right and can mess up a lot if used incorrectly, even here on testwiki - while this is a testing wiki it is still part of the SUL cluster, and there is generally not much of a need to import things here since we're not on a real content wiki so I would like to know what you will need it for, also considering that you don't have local import rights anywhere. Now, I haven't really handled that many permissions requests here so I'm not the best person to talk but if another more experienced crat here wants to give their opinion (e.g. Xaosflux), that is of course appreciated. EPIC (talk) 01:37, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Have you tried these sites? Admin rights aren't generally given out to users who don't have them on any other wikis, and testwiki isn't a place to test admin tools. Even if this request will be (partially) approved, importer rights would suffice for your purposes. Dragoniez (talk) 16:48, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
