Stutthof was a Nazi prison and later a concentration camp. It was near the village of Sztutowo in Poland,. Stutthof was 34 km (21 mi) from the German-occupied Free City of Sanzig. The camp was built around existing structures, It was first used as a prison for Polish leaders and intelligentsia. It became a prison on 2 September 1939. The prison was made into a concentration camp on 7 January 1942. Stutthof was liberated by the Allies on 9 May 1945,It was the last camp to be liberated. Stutthof was the only concentration camp to be liberated after World War II ended in Europe on 8 May 1945.
