Lina Wertmüller (Italian: [ˈliːna vertˈmyller, -mul-]; 14 August 1928 – 9 December 2021)[1] was an Italian screenwriter and movie director. She was the first woman nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director for Seven Beauties in 1977.[2]
She was also known for her movies The Seduction of Mimi, Love and Anarchy and Swept Away. In 2019, Wertmüller was announced as one of the four recipients of the Academy Honorary Award for her career.[3]
Wertmüller died on 9 December 2021 in Rome, Italy at the age of 93.[2]
