Carmen is ane o the 11 municipalities that mak up the Mexican state o Campeche. It is situatit at the sooth-wast o the state, on an aroond the Laguna de Términos. The municipal seat, an lairgest dounset, is Ciudad del Carmen.
The name "Carmen" is in honour o 16 Julie, the feast o Nuestra Señora del Carmen, after the date in 1717 when Spainyie colonial authorities feenally expelled the pirates from the island now kent as Isla del Carmen.
