- After I inserted the template {{Pgnviewer}} inside wikitable, record of moves ceased to be wrapped line by line, and stretched out into one line. I tested in debug mode in my browser that adding
white-space: normal;into .pgn-pgndiv class in css code resolved the problem. Раммон (обс.) 08:39, 6 апреля 2020 (UTC)- User:Раммон: sorry i missed your response. the no-break definition is in css for a reason: its purpose is to prevent castling notation (O-O & O-O-O, or 0-0, 0-0-0) from breaking between lines, since the browser breaks on hyphens. also, i think it's wrong to break between the move number and notation. in any case, if you remove the "nobreak", you may want to use the configuration part of the template, and replace the castling notation with one that has non-break hyphens (see en:Wikipedia:Nonbreaking hyphen). i do not understand why the "non-break" leaked from a single ply notation to the whole list of them. maybe something in the pgn confused it (such as < or > characters, for example). peace - קיפודנחש (обс.) 05:42, 19 апреля 2020 (UTC)

Diagnostics
[править код]Users ask to show some clear diagnostics in case of errors in parameters or in chess notation. See for example here, error correction is here. Now PGNviewer simply refuses to work. Leonid G. Bunich / обс. 09:28, 31 июля 2020 (UTC)
- User:LGB: there is some diagnostics, though whether it can be called "clear" is a judgement call.
- open " the version with corrupeted PGN, hit F12 => Console (on chrome and FF. console may lurk elsewhere, depending on your browser), and you'll find the error message:
- below the error itself, there is a dump of the PGN, so when passing multiple games to the template, you can match error to specific game (in case, e.g., that there are other games with ""Qf2")
- this may be not perfect - for some reason i can't recall, the actual move number is not available at the place that generates the message, but at least the offending AGN is, and usually, you won't have too many "Qf2" (or whatever the offending notation is) in a single game.
- i did not think, and still do not think, it's a good idea to show these messages on the page itself. maybe you want to add some "troubleshooting" notes to the documentation page of the template, instructing editors to look in the JS console when something does not work as expected.
