Two Faculty Positions in Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology

The Department of Biology at the University of Rochester (https://www.sas.rochester.edu/bio/) invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in cell, molecular, and developmental biology at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are seeking outstanding candidates whose research programs address fundamental biological problems and who have demonstrated excellence, originality, and productivity in research. Our multidisciplinary biology department affords opportunities for intellectual interactions across diverse research disciplines, with faculty working in the areas of aging, intracellular transport, proteomics, chromatin, DNA repair, RNA biochemistry, transposable elements, biological imaging, synthetic biology, development, and evolutionary biology. For this search, all areas of cell, developmental, and molecular biology will be considered.

Our research and graduate programs are integrated into a world-class life sciences research campus that provides ample opportunities for interactions and collaborations with the adjacent University of Rochester Medical Center. Faculty research is supported by University initiatives including the Institute for Data Science, the University of Rochester Aging Institute, the Center for RNA Biology, the Stem Cell Institute, and the Cancer Center. Research activities across the University are supported by core facilities for imaging, proteomics, functional genomics, computation, small molecule screening, and flow cytometry.

Application materials should be uploaded at https://www.rochester.edu/faculty-recruiting. Complete applications should include: a cover letter; curriculum vitae including publication list; a statement of research accomplishments and future plans; a statement of teaching experience and interests; a statement of commitment to advancing equity and fostering an inclusive and diverse community in academia, including past work and future goals. Also provide copies of three papers. Instructions for supplying three letters of recommendation are on the application website. Applicant screening will start October 24 and continue until candidates for interviews have been chosen.

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION: Novel RNAs in the nucleolus
UMass Chan Medical School

A postdoctoral position is available with Paul Kaufman and Thoru Pederson at UMass Chan Medical School. Deep sequencing of small RNAs in purified nucleoli has revealed multiple cell-type specific patterns of microRNA accumulation and processing. The next step will be validation of the nucleolar localization via in situ hybridization, as well as the development of functional assays for these species. Experience in nuclear cell biology and genomics/ bioinformatics is required. This is an entry-level position requiring no prior post-doctoral experience, representing an opportunity to join an institution widely known for its stature in RNA biology.
