don’t worry, if they won’t sell me the book I have no issue pirating it. I’m looking for the ones that will, so I can compensate them for their work and (though one person doesnt make much difference) discourage the use of DRM.

yeah, but most platforms dont let you download the actual file
their selection seems a little lacking but free books is nice
ive been doing that so far but I also want to support the people/platforms that will just straight up sell me the book so they dont go out of business. also, pirated copies sometimes have weird issues.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•TIL: Lemmy's instance-level URL filters also evaluate against community descriptions [See edit]
31·2 days agoits not necessarily every single user, but the vast majority of the time when you interact with a .ml account they act insane and are assholes. it may only be a vocal minority, but the mods do nothing to stop them and on .ml communities they actively support that behavior.

84·2 days agoyou’re missing the point. in subscribed view .ml content can still appear. the point is to make it so that nothing from lemmy.ml can get through at all because the people on that instance suck to interact with.
the ux is dependent on the app or webapp (usually tied to an instance) you are using, and mbin is the same ux as Lemmy like 90% of the time. there is only one mobile app (Interstellar) but its no worse than most Lemmy apps. i think the better federation alone would be enough to make it more popular if Lemmy wasnt the only thing being recommended for threads.
yeah, as much as I hate algorithm-based social media short form content needs it. you scroll from one video to the next with no way to pick and choose which ones you interact with. normally you can just not click on a post and it gets nothing from you, but short form content does not allow that. that means the next video has to be chosen for you, and that regular feeds will not work. that mean you have to have some kind of algorithm or you will have to interact with tons of videos you have no interest in to get to one that is worth watching to you (which is the current state of loops).
mbin should be on there too IMO. similar to Lemmy but it federates properly with microblog stuff.
I’m a little behind on this, what does goodreads have to do with bezos?

Games@lemmy.world•Why is Valve being sued for almost $900 million, but Epic Games wasn't sued when they bought Rocket League and Fall Guys to remove them from steam?
52·5 days agoah yes, they are price fixing by saying devs can’t set the price on steam (which the devs control) higher than the price on other platforms (which the devs also control)

1·6 days agothat would be great. I’d be using plasma mobile right now if mobile linux was in a state where you could daily it (and if I had a phone where drivers aren’t a pain in the ass)

1·6 days agoit does seem like a lot, but considering theres no ads anywhere even on the free version and the whole thing is pretty polished I think its reasonable.

20·9 days agoat least with them you can turn it off. its not technically opt-out, but it does ask if you want to change the default before you do anything so its close enough.

could do that, but I’d rather actually buy the eBook bc it is less likely to have weird errors than a pirated copy.
