Technology@piefed.social•Benchmarking Windows Against Itself, From Windows XP To Windows 11
36·1 month agoThe article is worth a read but to save you a click if you don’t want to: Windows 11 is the worst in all metrics. Includes startup time, RAM usage, and speed of using apps (Paint, web browser)
This is a pattern that keeps repeating: Windows 11 was last in the battery test, took longer to render a video project in OpenShot, took its sweet time opening the File Explorer window, and opening built-in applications like MS Paint left enough time to fetch a fresh cup of coffee. Not to mention Windows 11 taking the longest to open websites and scoring worst of all in single-threaded CPU-Z.

They chose the foot because the arteries and veins there are compatible with those found in the ear. The foot’s skin and soft tissue are also similarly thin to the head’s.

World News@lemmy.world•Taiwan says its military can respond rapidly to any sudden Chinese attackEnglish
2·2 months agoAgreed, but if Taiwan can respond to an initial attack well enough then they buy time for their real defenses to kick in, mostly allies. It’s not a pointless statement or stance.
Following a “dialog with Apple since early 2024,” Swiss companies now have access to iPhone NFC. However, COMCO says that the terms and conditions differ from those in the European Economic Area, and may not comply with Swiss antitrust law.
Other apps can use’s iPhones NFC for payment functionality, the probe is to see if the requirements to be able to do so are reasonable.

2·2 months agoNot from Wisconsin, but what am I supposed to do if this happens to me? Is there a way to go about making it less likely to happen (other than not posting your SSN online obviously)?
Aside from privacy concerns, this is the biggest reason I stay away from Google products. I don’t want to start relying on a platform only to have them kill it.

I agree with this, but the biggest benefit to me is that it’s (a) open source and auditable, (b) self-hostable to owning my data, and © has a cheap hosted plan so I can choose to not handle my own major security. For meeting all of my highest personal priorities I’m willing to put up with some clunkiness. But, man, I would love the friendliness I hear about from the likes of 1password!
