  • I think we REALY NEED account migration tools. If let’s say 5 instances get big to cover 80-90% of all content (together) then those instances will get infiltrated. There will be venture capital trying to get in. And there will be government censorship/propaganda. The way to fix this is for people to leave those instances. But they will never do that if it means they loose all their posts/comments/likes/etc. The best thing the fediverse can do is encourage users to move instances frequently.

This might also be a measuring problem. Quantifying “turned on” might be pretty hard and what is actually measured is more a “evokes emotional response and increases blood flow”.

Maybe 5% horny and 30% angry measures the same as 25% horny.

  • The math might be correct it just doesn’t reflect what it says. Its 20min saved compared to going all of the roads at the speed limit all the time.

So every time you slow down (because of trafic, a red light, a crossroads or for any other reason) the app will calculate you as going slower and “loosing” time. Of course you couldn’t actually have gone the speed limit in those situations but the app can’t know that. It actually can’t calculate the time you saved.

But I can’t find the app on fdrois so I can’t check.

  • Yes, cloudflare will not tamper with your record because you are not important enough to be worth the reputation loss. Realistically, no harm will come to you from cloudflare.

However! They are still the party that could theoretically cause the largest amount of damage to both you and your users.

Cloudflare cannot track visitors of my website, the only malicious thing they can do is to tamper with my DNS record.

They “cannot” only because they say so. Changing your DNS record allows them to read 100% of all incoming traffic even if it is TLS encrypted (because they can acquire a valid TLS certificate for your domain through a DNS challenge).

  • DNS is the most important foundational stone. Whoever controls your DNS can redirect all of your users to any address they want AND present a valid TLS cert through a DNS challenge. They can also redirect all E-Mails of the associates domain, and if any address was used to register an account, they can reset that accounts password. Trusting someone to handle your DNS is the highest trust you can put on someone on the internet. And that is both for a website povider trusting the registrar of their domain and for a end user with their DNS resolver.
