I think he’s trying to substitute populism for health science, which is irresponsible and awful and will kill people. That he’s using eugenicist language in the process, and eliminating vaccines because ‘big pharma corruption’ while not meaningfully checking big pharma power or abuses smells like a plan to watch the children of vulnerable populations die. The rest of it- making noise about redesigning the food pyramid- is just smoke. The ‘new’ recommendations are just a rebranding of previous recommendations to pretend like they’re doing something about how our food systems are shitty because mostly FDA spends food money to subsidize the ag industry and processed subsidized product is profitable in ways that healthy food often isn’t

On the one hand, I really really want it to be a world-changing breakthrough for real this time. I’ve been losing my dad to Alzheimer’s for several years now and even if it’s too late for him I would just hope that nobody else has to go through that in the future. On the other hand, knowing that it’s someone’s business model to jerk at my hope and heart-strings for ad engagement has me more or less ready to fire futurism into the fucking sun

Because ICE has federal authority, anything local authority does will create a conflict that ICE and Trump will use to justify martial law.
In other words, the states shouldn’t exercise their own authority or else the feds will keep escalating the things they’re already doing? At this point I don’t see any reason to believe that Trump won’t declare martial law regardless of what Minnesota does. The question isn’t whether or not he will escalate, it’s whether or not there will be resistance.

At this point I think it’s pretty safe to conclude that when the right-wing 2A guys argue that 2A is inviolable/shall not be infringed, they mean it only in the context of service to right-wing politics, not that it’s a right that applies to anyone else. In other words, they support the notion of privilege, not rights.

Well, yeah. The feds can’t block state criminal charges, so obvs they need to obstruct state investigation of crimes committed by feds

It’s maddening to see the predictable full-throated lying about how she was a terrorist coming from the administration and its enabling news networks, knowing that their intended audience will nod and say ‘seems legit’

Anybody even the littlest bit surprised that he would say this sort of thing hasn’t been paying attention. Not a stunner at all.

To be clear, he essentially claimed that the US has the capability to forcibly do that- which isn’t so much an assertion that the US has any right to do a thing, it is that laws and rights are meaningless in his view. He’s framing a potential invasion or coup not supported by law or rights as if it’s legitimized by either, while fundamentally subverting the notion that anyone but the powerful have rights the US is bound to respect.

Have to admit its a smart play from the orks
Rhetorically it’s clever, sure, but effectively it amounts to demanding unconditional surrender or else they’ll continue to lose until demands are met

I’m old enough to remember when the term ‘homeland security’ was too fashy-sounding to be taken seriously. We were fine without ICE, and weirdly enough, creating it hasn’t solved anything- if anything, the lies they tell to justify doing it more and harder have gotten more and more absurd.

Probably capsaicin
They don’t have to. They just interfere in our politics

Not only do we not respect it, we hate it with the heat of a thousand suns

Yep. When the ‘resistance’ grand plans are to adopt the fascist framing (e.g. that ‘woke is weak’ and should be surrendered) what’s the point in having an opposition party?

This is actually an area that’s developing quite quickly. In 2023, California managed to put almost 14mw worth of storage on the grid; if they keep building out at that rate, peaky/transient power sources like wind and solar will have someplace to park until someone needs that energy. Almost 12mw of that was utility storage; it’s like the utilities have the chance to get out of the business of producing power themselves and into the role of renting storage (or buying surplus energy then selling it later when it’s needed)
Granted, 14mw isn’t a lot in the scale of California, but the rate of growth in grid-storage over time is humongous

It’s as if they all think that they’ll be rewarded for their loyalty to him.
It’s pretty okay. Lots of engagement, also there’s something of a ‘block early and often’ culture that seems to have a way of really reducing the drama and nonsense

Yeah I still can’t get over how a couple of days later his right ear didn’t have a mark on it. At his age, even with the best of plastic surgery, he wouldn’t have clean skin on an ear for at least a week if he’d actually had a bullet pass through any part of it. I don’t believe things he has to say about his health- he has a pretty solid track record when it comes to not telling the truth about his height, weight, bone spurs, being a stable genius, etc
Thats not a warning intended to keep the public safe, it’s a threat intended to get the public to give up on democracy
