Cycled in to work for the first time in like 2+ years today. 23 km in 55 minutes moving time, probably l about an hour total.
Feels great. Such a refreshing way to start the day.
I’m honestly terrified of cycling because of how people drive.
I used to ride to school (10ish k trip, almost all bikeway) and work (wide footpaths, only needed to cross maybe one main road) back in the day and loved it.
Now my commute would be a lot of 80kph and 70kph main road and seeing the aggressive way people drive in their dual cabs along there has me shook.
I’ve also seen a couple of bike stacks with cars (for e.g https://youtu.be/bLAuktN2N10) and dudes get fair buggered even at low speeds.
You’re braver than I am.
My route is mostly on bikeways or quieter back streets. Only a few short stretches on busier roads, and even those were on the quieter end of “busier roads”. I could get my ride down from 23 to 18 km if I didn’t care about safety, which would be such an enormous boon. But sadly our governments and councils don’t really care about good transport networks. Car-brained in the extreme.
