It seems the controversy is over the definition of “preservative”. Both compounds cited in the lawsuit are commonly used food additives that were not (and generally aren’t) primarily used AS preservatives even though they are sometimes utilized as such.
It is interesting to consider when even something as pedestrian as table salt CAN be used as a preservative, but generally isn’t considered to be one for the purposes of labeling.
I was thinking the same things.
Especially with the fact that simple table salt is great at preserving things like meats, meaning it could technically be considered a preservative. I’m betting the individuals doing the lawsuit consume plenty of that in their day to day.
Which could be a problem for poorly educated and high blood pressure. I will imagine it’s also not great for the gut biome, but I don’t have a degree in medicine, so there’s that.
