If Canada ran its own top-tier league, focused on Canadian cities, rivalries, and development, would the sport be healthier and better at the highest level?

    The league wouldn’t be top-tier because all the best players would go to us cities where the salaries are higher.

        Maybe, especially if things don’t change politically anytime soon. But as it stands, all the prestige that kids dream about is in the NHL. Playing with or against your heroes. Being televised on the most watched / streamed services etc.

        Hard to break that hold, without the money being there first to buy attention and players.

      Doesn’t the NHL have a team salary cap? I think the real issue would be not enough corps buying ads.
