“Our church elders want us to create a confrontational situation so we’ll view the outside world as hostile and see the church as the only safe community. Would you like to learn more?”

You know… now that you mention it… This does sound like a tactic of theirs.

Yeah, either the culture and people are really receptive and they convert a lot of new tithe payers, or it’s more heated and confrontational and the missionaries are further entrenched into the church. Source: was Mormon missionary for a year before I almost killed myself because of all that bullshit… so I guess it doesn’t always work out that way. Lol

Shit, this never occurred to me! So I should politely ask them if they’d like to sin instead of telling them to go fuck themselves?

Actually, just explain the above. It’ll seep into their psyche.

I love seeing Exmo content pop up on Lemmy, damn! Mission shit is brutal, but they’ve gotta keep the commitment-cycle churning.

their founder deserves a hell of a lot more credit than he gets for being a pioneer of Science Fiction / Fantasy writing… dude practically invented the genre…

That’s L. Ron Hubbard of Scientology, not Jospeh Smith of Mormonism.

Neither was Smith. He plagiarized a lot of the BoM from View of the Hebrews.

Considering that there are a lot of rich and famous scientologists, and that scientology members are required to donate a lot of money, I am sure scientology has raised hundreds of billions of dollars.

Poor missionaries. Teenagers are far too young to be involved in something like this. Even the victims are perpetrators in Mormonism
