ID Card FAQ 

Why do I have to wear an ID card on campus? 

University policy on ID Cards requires all UCSF staff, students, faculty, and affiliates to use and display their UCSF ID badges to maintain the safety of UCSF premises. The WeID badge system helps verify identification and limit access to authorized members of the UCSF community. 

How do I get an ID card?

The assigned department representative must first approve and enter information into the computer system. This is normally the person who handles Human Resources functions within the department. 

After your information is entered into the computer system, you begin the process by making an appointment

Medical Center: Medical Center personnel must contact Medical Center Human Resources or Medical Center Security for ID Cards. 

What do I bring to my ID card appointment? 

Bring at least one valid government photo identification, proof of credentials if you require them on your ID card. Beginning on 7/01/21 UCSF funds the first ID card for UCSF employees and students. UCSF affiliates pay for their ID cards. WeID accepts cash, checks made payable to UC Regents, and Visa/Master Card.

How do I replace my ID card? 

If you need a replacement card due to a recent promotion or a new department, UCSF may pay for that ID card. Make an appointment and go to a We ID service location with one valid government photo identification. An appointment is required.

How do I return an ID card? 

UCSF ID cards are the property of the University of California. Policy requires that departments collect UCSF ID cards from all persons who are discontinuing their association with the University. ID cards should be forwarded to any ID card service location, or interoffice mail to campus box 0238. 

Fingerprinting FAQ 

How do I get my fingerprints taken for employment at UCSF? 

Have your hiring manager complete a Request for Sensitive Employee Fingerprinting Form (campus employee). If fingerprints are needed for professional licensing, complete and bring the form. Then make an appointment. UCSF will cover the cost of fingerprinting for a “sensitive” position. For all other fingerprint services, the applicant will be assessed a fee. 

How do I know if I need my fingerprints taken for employment?

Guidelines for pre-employment fingerprinting are well established and usually included in the job announcement. Check with your hiring manager if you have questions or you may consult the UCSF policy on Critical Position Background Checks

How long does this take? 

Fingerprinting will take approximately 30 minutes.

Where can I go to get something notarized?

Notary services are available at the Parnassus Heights and Mission Bay WeID locations by appointment only. Call (415) 476-2088.  Bring one valid government photo identification to your appointment.

What does it cost to get something notarized? 

The cost is $10 per signature and is payable by cash, personal check, Visa or MasterCard.
