2024The practical guide contains detailed information on the biology, ecology and behaviour of three species of gregarious locusts in Caucasus and Central Asia (CCA) – the Italian locust Calliptamus italicus (L., 1758), the Moroccan locust Dociostaurus maroccanus (Thunberg, 1815) and the Asian migratory locust Locusta migratoria migratoria (L., 1758). It was prepared within the framework of the interregional and multilateral “Programme to improve national and regional locust management in CCA”, which has been implemented under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) since 2011 to the benefit of ten countries : Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. This guide provides comprehensive yet accessible information intended not only for locust control and plant protection specialists in CCA countries, but also for scientists, students and the widest circle of readers. -

No results found.This guide provides assistance to development professionals to integrate the gender transformative approach (GTA) in project interventions that focus on food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture, in view of advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment. It provides step-by-step detailed guidance for project and programme staff on how to integrate the GTA at every phase of the project cycle. It also provides examples of practical tools and methodologies that can help build agency for women and men, and transform unequal power relations and discriminatory social institutions (e.g. gender norms, policies, legislation). In Part 1, this guide provides an overview of the GTA, explaining the key dimensions and spheres of influence for gender transformative change and describing key considerations in gender transformative programming. Part 2 provides step-by-step guidance on how to integrate the GTA throughout the project cycle: identification, formulation, implementation and monitoring, evaluation and closure. The guide has been prepared within the framework of the Joint Programme on Gender Transformative Approaches for Food Security and Nutrition (JP GTA). -

No results found.The climate- smart FFS initiative for smallholder farmers in Jordan has been launched under the project Building Resilience to Cope with Climate Change in Jordan Through Improving Water Use Efficiency in the Agriculture Sector (BRCCJ). A suite of climate- smart FFS training materials has been developed for different crops, cropping systems, and climate- smart agriculture technologies. The curriculum has 6 modules, namely, Module 1: climate- smart integrated homestead gardening, Module 2: climate- smart hydroponic leafy vegetable production, Module 3: climate- smart integrated fruit orchards, Module 4: climate- smart high value vegetables agribusiness, Module 5: climate- smart rainfed wheat and barley, and Module 6: climate- smart livestock fodder bank. In support of the modules, catalogues for climate-smart agriculture technology have been developed to aid facilitators and farmer learning.In this module, several essential water-smart technologies that are instrumental in establishing and managing successful climate-smart integrated fruit orchard in the project areas in Jordan have been introduced, including the following technologies: subsurface deep root irrigation system, cocoons and smart irrigation technology.By promoting sustainable food production and enhancing climate resilience, this module offers a promising pathway towards adapting to climate change and water scarcity while achieving food security, livelihood improvements, and environmental sustainability in Jordan's agriculture sector. -
