Hello Fantasticfears, and welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). Like translating for Wikipedia?

[edit]

Hi. I see that you are a writer of zh-hans. I was wondering if you had ever heard of translatewiki.net, a localisation project for MediaWiki and other open source programs. We could use your help. If you are in contact with users who can write other languages spoken in China, that would like to help out making MediaWiki available in their languages, we would appreciate your help in that area, too. Currently the translations in translatewiki will usually be available in Wikipedia within a day or two. Thank you! Siebrand 12:14, 30 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Barnstar and a request for feedback

[edit]
Individual Engagement Grant Barnstar
Thank you for commenting on Individual Engagement Grant proposals during this recent round! We really appreciate that you took the time to share your thoughts.

To help us improve the IEG program for future participants, would you mind taking this quick 3-question survey?

Thanks again for your help,

Letter petitioning WMF to reverse recent decitions

[edit]

The Wikimedia Foundation recently created a new feature, "superprotect" status. The purpose is to prevent pages from being edited by elected administrators -- but permitting WMF staff to edit them. It has been put to use in only one case: to protect the deployment of the Media Viewer software on German Wikipedia, in defiance of a clear decision of that community to disable the feature by default, unless users decide to enable it.

If you oppose these actions, please add your name to this letter. If you know non-Wikimedians who support our vision for the free sharing of knowledge, and would like to add their names to the list, please ask them to sign an identical version of the letter on change.org.

I'm notifying you because you participated in one of several relevant discussions. -Pete F (talk) 22:06, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to the IEG Committee

[edit]

Hi Fantasticfears,

Thanks for signing up to join the Individual Engagement Grants Committee! It is my pleasure to confirm your membership. We've got a lot to accomplish together, particularly during the next 2 months, and it will be awesome to have your help. Here is how to get started:

To make your membership official, please do 2 things by April 21, 2016:

  1. Introduce yourself in the IdeaLab.
  2. Send your email address and preferred username to IEGrants(_AT_)wikimedia.org, so that we can subscribe you to the committee mailing list and get you setup on the committee's internal wiki.

Then there are 3 first tasks for active committee members to start on right away:

  1. Read the information in the Committee Workroom (your committee organizing hub on meta), beginning with the getting started guide for new members.
  2. Join at least one working group.
  3. Start giving feedback on submitted proposals. Asking questions to gather information you’ll need to make a recommendation helps prospective grantees think their projects all the way through, and will give us more great proposals to choose from.

Formal IEG Committee review of proposals starts on 3 May. WMF staff will be posting information about scoring and selection of proposals on the committee mailing list and in the Workroom soon, so please keep an eye there!

Thanks again for joining us to help make impactful IEGrants :-)

Best,

Wikipedia Asian Month 2017 : Bengali Wikipedia

[edit]

Sir, You are the WAM Co-ordinator. User:Mouryan was to organize WAM in Bengali Wikipedia. But he still hasn't and a cross sign appears beside Bengali Wikipedia. I am taking initiative in organizing the WAM page. Is it ok? Che12Guevara (talk) 12:13, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Che12Guevara: we are sending out messages to ask local organizers to set up event page. We have a great sample you can use Wikipedia Asian Month 2017/Sample. And it doesn't have much differences with previous years. In the worst case, can you help to create such a page? --Fantasticfears (talk) 12:17, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Sure, you are so welcome to join the event as long as you can spend about 2 hours a day for the month. But I see there is another guy organizing the event with you. You might want to talk with him (her)! @Saileshpat: and can you send some information to Che12Guevara please?--Fantasticfears (talk) 20:08, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Central site notice for WAM

Hi isn't there a central notice for WAM this year? --Tiven2240 (talk) 08:01, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Tiven2240: It should be displayed in your community. Can you help us with that? Or shall we provide a template to use? --Fantasticfears (talk) 09:21, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
does it need sitenotice? Or central notice will be issued?. --Tiven2240 (talk) 09:26, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Tiven2240: you are right. Addis was supposed to work on that. But he is experience troubles from accessing the site. Then I forgot to follow up on this. I'll see what I can do.--Fantasticfears (talk) 09:42, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

If there is any template for it please provide as it will be helpful on local wiki. --Tiven2240 (talk) 09:44, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Tiven2240: I am asking sysop for CentralNotice since I don't have permission which Addis has. But he can't access the site at this moment. I'll let you know how it goes.--Fantasticfears (talk) 22:21, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
I think you must also provide us with a template so we may put it up on our local sitenotice because I think it would take a long time for the request. --Tiven2240 (talk) 11:34, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
It won't :) --Base (talk) 11:41, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

WAM

[edit]

Hi Fantasticfears! As far as I remember, there could be up to 5 organizers for WAM at any wikipedia, but there are currently only 2 at the English Wikipedia WAM. I have also asked here if I could become one of the organizers, but I do not think it worked. I do not think it would hurt to have one or two more organizers at WAM; even the wikicup had 3! :P I have made a few GAs, so I guess I know about policies/guidelines. I could really help out! Could you advice? Thanks a lot, and have a great rest of the day! :) Adityavagarwal (talk) 13:42, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Adityavagarwal:I would say just go for it! Add yourself as a local organizer in both event page and page on Meta.--Fantasticfears (talk) 22:19, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a ton, Fantasticfears! :D Would do. Adityavagarwal (talk) 13:16, 5 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Redirections

[edit]

I've made an article were there ealier only was a redirection. How do I made it count. Do you know? The tool Fountain will not take it, as the article name was created much earlier for sv:Sutta-pitaka?! Deryni (talk) 05:27, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Do you need to relax the restriction on the articles to be accepted in the campaign? I think we can make changes in the tool to allow it. BTW, are you in Stockholm for DivCon?--Fantasticfears (talk) 12:45, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
It would be very nice to allow articles written on earlier redirections to be approved. These are also "real contributions" to the project. Well, I'm not in Stockholm for DivCon, I'm going all in for Wikipedias Asian-month right now! ;-) Deryni (talk) 10:25, 4 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

The restriction is removed. So can you submit the old article? And do you want to organize an offline editathon? For now, I lived in Sundsvall so I can be around. Moreover, we can apply for Rapid Grants for the event. In this case, I would need your response. And I’ve talked with StenS and some people in Gothenburg. We could connect them too.—Fantasticfears (talk) 14:51, 5 November 2017 (UTC) Fantasticfears (talk) 14:51, 5 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Ле Лой:Sorry, the restriction is still there. The tool says it's created by another writer and it's created 2011, (sv:Sutta-pitaka). Deryni (talk) 15:48, 10 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hi Deryni, the only thing I can do is to relax this restriction for everyone, so that Fountain will allow everyone submit articles that have been created any time in the past. And the jury will have to decide if the article qualifies on individual basis. Do you both agree to that? Bairuilong, pinging you just in case. Le Loy 09:11, 11 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Ле Лой:I appreciate your effort, but to button "Add" is still gray-coloured, so adding is not possible. Perhaps the problem lies in the fact that the redirection was made by another user. Well, easing the restrictions also has its backsides. I rather suggest that the rules should state that articles on previous redirections don't count, or that such articles should be applied for in some special way. Perhaps the later, as an article on a redirection normally is a very good measure. Deryni (talk) 09:23, 11 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
How about if we totally delete the article, and then re-publish it as a new one. Will that solve the problem? Best regards --Bairuilong (talk) 09:26, 11 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Bairuilong, that would work as well! Le Loy 09:37, 11 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Ok, good. @Deryni: Confirm when you have made a copy of the text, and then I will delete the article. Best regards, --Bairuilong (talk) 09:54, 11 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
BairuilongThat's a good, working solution. There will certainly not be many articles of this category. I've got the copy, so please go ahead, Bairuilong. Deryni (talk) 10:06, 11 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Done! --Bairuilong (talk) 10:10, 11 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
This seems the best alternative to solve the problem: Solving in locally, instead of lessen the restrictions. Thank you for your help, Fantasticfears, Le Loi and Bairuilong. Deryni (talk) 11:29, 11 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Ле Лой: some Wikipedia may have a strict policy to prevent such deletion. Maybe a page to allow juries to skip such validation can help? That can be a future plan.—Fantasticfears (talk) 06:58, 14 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'll think this through, thanks for this idea. Le Loy 04:06, 15 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

I used to participated this project last year and I 've received AddisWang message since january 2017, and i sent my question at his/her talk page in zhwiki but i haven't received his/her answer. Now I having problem with the google form that AddisWang mentioned - I accessed this google form but then I 've not seen any postcards sent to my talk page in viwiki. Until now I haven't received any replies from AddisWang, so I really want you to solve this problem with me. Contact to me at my talk page in viwiki in here! Thank you very much!! Mintu Martin.

About WAM Postcard

[edit]

Hello, I am an admin of lzh wiki. I have noticed that WAM has two rules:

  1. When you create 4 articles that fulfill the above rules, you will receive a WAM postcard from one of the Asian communities.
  2. Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors will receive a signed certificate from Asian Affiliates, and an additional postcard.

So who has the special postcards to send? Will he/she be the member of WAM's affiliates or some one else? Can Chinese users recive postcards from other countries after they finished the edit-a-thon in ZH or LZH wiki? I would appreciate it if you tell me that.- I am Davidzdh. 03:34, 11 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Davidzdh: I’m so sorry to reply you late. The additional postcard is usually sent by other Asian affiliates and we WMCN can also send that too. You can find participanting affiliates in the end of WAM 2017 page. I hope that answer your question.-Fantasticfears (talk) 11:01, 19 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
I see. Thank you very much.- I am Davidzdh. 15:15, 19 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Request for comment for those who live in mainland China - sitenotice WSC

[edit]

Hi. We are organizing Wiki Science Competition in the whole word. Please, see m:CentralNotice/Request/Wiki_Science_Competition_2017_(November_1-30)#China. It's a request for banner for Wiki Science Competition. Actually, we have two jurors from China but it's difficult for us to make a campaign and we have no uploaded files. Vietnam and India might get something.. for sure Thailand, Russia, Taiwan and Australia might get a sitenotice but not China, which will be one of the few countries in East Asia without appropriate coverage.--Alexmar983 (talk) 15:27, 11 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Alexmar983: do you need some help for site notice or central notice? I don’t have capacity for this month. So maybe you can contact jury in China for help. Or I can refer WMTW people to intervene.-Fantasticfears (talk) 11:17, 19 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Fantasticfears I received some feedback. WMTW people write traditional Chinese, not simplified chinese... isn't it a problem? well it's useful in Hong Kong and Singapure I suppose. In any case for a landing page we need a translation of commons:Commons:Wiki Science Competition 2017. Taiwan has its own page, and in the end people should understand English if they work at a University, but translating the page should be ok. In the meantime we have two new Chinese jurors and I am thinking of offering a prize myself for the best Chinese picture.--Alexmar983 (talk) 11:23, 19 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

national prize... I think this is not a lot, but it's worth a sitenotice!--Alexmar983 (talk) 14:25, 1 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

WAM submission

[edit]

Hi, I am really sorry to bother you, but I have emailed my local organizer regarding questions I have for WAM and I have not received any reply. I hope you can answer my questions: Question 1: https://ms.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Bulan_Asia_Wikipedia/Peserta is where I registered. But I don't know if I did it correctly because 2 green links came up and I've never seen green links before. One green link is "Semak Hasil", meaning "Check Results" and the other one is "juri, beri nilai," which means "jury, give score,". When I clicked both links, I got a bad gateway message. Can you please check whether I did it correctly? Question 2: Since I registered for WAM, I created 2 Asian-related articles. How do I know whether these articles are already counted in my tally? Question 3: This question sort of relates to the previous question. When I saw the WAM English page, I saw that one has to submit contributions through the Fountain tool. I have no idea about this tool as I could not find it on the Bahasa Melayu equivalent of the WAM page. Could you please enlighten me if I need to do the submission for my 2 articles using this Fountain? Thank you!

@Mintu Martin: Hello Mintu, for the first question, the link seems old to me. And I see some text refers to 2016. Could you check with local event organizer? We use Fountain to keep track submissions. You can click the drop down menu to find your community there. You should find every details in that tool!—Fantasticfears (talk) 11:11, 19 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

WAM 2017 on the Danish and Faroese Wikipedia

[edit]

Hello Fantasticfears. You and me are the only users who have access to the judge tool on the Dansih Wikipedia. I have finished judging the articles that the other users have written to the Wikipedia Asian Month 2017, but someone else must be judging the 7 articles which I wrote. Do you understand Danish, so you could be the judge? Or could you give access to the judge tool to User:Palnatoke plaese, I asked him some time ago and he agreed. I wrote his name below the Organisers headline, but that seems not to be enough. Can you help please? I am the only contributer to this project on the Faroese Wikipedia, who will be the judge of the articles? Last year User:Palnatoke was judging the articles, I can ask him again this year, if he will judge the four articles. --EileenSanda (talk) 00:55, 4 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

WAM 2017

[edit]

Hey. Fantasticfears. I answered your message in my page of discussion, but I don't think you've seen it. Thank you for reminding me and I have already sent my contact info. I became a judge when the event was about to end and, because of the delay on giving me the permission to judge the articles, I couldn't judge any of them although I had requested the statute days before the end. Anyways, I'm listed as one of the judges. Will I ever receive another postcard? Lustmoon (talk) 16:18, 1 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Lustmoon: Thanks for your participation. I'm sorry you didn't make it. But per rule says, I can't send you another postcard in this case unfortunately. Please stay tuned and enrolled as a local organizer in the beginning next time. Happy new year!--Fantasticfears (talk) 10:01, 2 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Fantasticfears: No problems. I'll stay tuned to the other events. Happy new year. Lustmoon (talk) 19:21, 2 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi! May I ask you a question?

[edit]

Hi! I am editor from Thai Wikipedia, I saw you sent the form for receiving the postcard to Thai editors but I don't receive it. I mean I also one of the editors who joined the event but I can't access the tool for sending the article so I sent it manually (You can see my participation here.) I checked the tool and it is not count my articles, so I have a question. If I don't sent the articles via the tool, is it not qualified?

Thank you! --Anonimeco (talk) 18:43, 2 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

In this case, you'll need to ask local organizer. B20180 Could you offer a hand?--Fantasticfears (talk) 19:52, 17 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello,

I'm Amy from Javanese Wikipedia. So it's been a while since the WAM2017 announcement but I haven't received any postcards yet, I wonder if it has something to do with my address. Will I be receiving one soon? (I live in Indonesia).

Also, I want to know whether the WAM2017 Ambassadors will get a certificate of participation.

Thank you ! :) 🍂 Notanotheramy (talk) 12:27, 19 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

WAM Postcard

[edit]

Hi Erick,

Nice to meet you again.

Thank you for sharing "Organizing Wikipedia Asian Month 2018" on my discussion page. And here is my few thing.

I already joined Wikipedia Asian Month event for 2 years and I really excited with it. But I felt a little bit sad, because I couldn't receive any postcard, even though they said they already sent it to me. I mentioned and talked with many people but I can't get any good answer. I think it would be better if that this concern will be improve. Anyway that is just small gift but make WAM participator have more power to contribute for Wiki.

That is my thought. Thank you for spend your time to read. XxxNMTxxx (talk) 16:34, 4 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

@XxxNMTxxx: Hi! It's really troubling to me that you didn't get your postcards. We have to rely on postal service to send postcards due to the cost and we have no control over those postal service. From the complains we received, postcards from Japan and Indonesia are usually reliable. So our shipment is likely to be lost at Vietnam side. But I'd love to resend you a postcard to compensate the unlucky loss.
Speaking of this year's campaign, are you going to be an organizer?
By the way, it's OK for me to talk on Vietnamese Wikipedia. --Fantasticfears (talk) 01:37, 5 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Asian Month 2018

[edit]

Hello Erick Guan,

are you involved in this years organisation of the Asian Month? I have seen that already two logos have been uploaded (with text, without text). Are these already official? I am asking because I would like to create a localized German version, such as this one (just an example upload). winkThanks! Best regards --Furfur (talk) 13:51, 2 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

WAM2017的问题和建议

[edit]

Theodore Xu (talk) 09:34, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Theodore Xu: 感谢你的热心。邮寄方面如果有预算的话,会考虑的。--Fantasticfears (talk) 18:06, 31 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
