Page
[edit]Hi. I moved the page that you created to your user page at User:ASherman (WMF). I guess that the intention was to put it there in the first place. -- Tegel (Talk) 18:53, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
An apology to the WMF from Willy on Wheels
[edit]I am the user formerly known as Willy on Wheels (talk · contribs). I apologise to Jimbo Wales, the WMF staff and everyone for moving pages 10 years ago.
I should add explicitly, that a user called Sunholm in 2006 on en.wikipedia and other projects is not me as many people believe, and is someone trying to gain off being me.
Anyway, I apologise to everyone from the Wikimedia Foundation.
Willy on Wheels (now wishing to re-edit constructively globally).

Blogpost on a dedicated Urdu Wikipedian
[edit]Hi Andrew!
Hope you are fine.
Inline with the exchange of emails with Fabrice on May 19 and 20 (also CC'ed to you), I have drafted the following blog on Tahir Mahmood, the first Urdu Wikipedian to cross 1,00,000 edits mark:
I request you to kindly review it and post it as it is fitting tribute to a person who has contributed to Urdu Wikipedia spending several hours everyday since the past several years.
Thanks again for your support in reviewing and posting the previous blogpost: http://blog.wikimedia.org/2015/03/03/hindi-wiki-sammelan/
Hope to get your continued support in showcasing the editing cultures of Wiki Communities, which I have been doing since a long time.--Muzammil (talk) 18:57, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
[Canceled]
[edit]Hello.
A friendly Nepali Wikipedian just emailed me regarding "[Canceled]" you've posted.
He is one of those hoping this draft to be part of WMF blogs
When your esteemed team members reasoned the multiplicity of mushrooming Wiki projects and the inability to showcase celebration of each of them on WMF blog, I explained the same to our Nepali friends.
I explained that this blog will simply be archived like some other blogs and will not be posted.
They happily agreed to be content with just the draft text.
But suddenly "[Canceled]" marked by you has further caused anguish to them - is it a negation of the blogpost or a negation of the event effort?
I see that blogposts by some other Wikipedians not showcased on WMF blog are just archived. E.g. @WeAreWikipedia: One Wikimedian every week to tell untold community stories on Twitter without a thoughtful and considerate "[Canceled]" marking which you've done. --Muzammil (talk) 19:14, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, I am sorry for the confusion. Canceled was the wrong choice of words on my behalf, my apologies. We actually marked it as canceled because we thought this angle was wrong and maybe it could be written as a story about editor engagement and how these 30,000 articles where created (editor engagement, events ,etc). Again my apologies, I have reverted the canceled to archived. ASherman (WMF) (talk) 21:03, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
Your Blogpost "100 years after its release, watch the first Alice in Wonderland film for free"
[edit]Hi in the abstract is says "150 years ago, we first read about Alice, a rabbit hole, and a fantasy world filled with peculiar creatures; the first film based on Lewis Carroll’s most famous work was released 150 years ago." Where se second 150 should be a 100. Regards--Saehrimnir (talk) 05:13, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hello - Andrew's internet is failing him right now but I've made this change. Thanks, JSutherland (WMF) (talk) 15:53, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you both so much for being on top of things. I appreciate the help Saehrimnir. Hope we can work more together in the future :). Best, ASherman (WMF) (talk) 18:33, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Bengali translation missing
[edit]Hi, Bengali translation of this blog post is missing. If possible, please add bn translation. Here is translation. I translated it yesterday. Thank you --Aftabuzzaman (talk) 16:45, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for informing me of the completed translation. I have uploaded the translation to the blog. Best, ASherman (WMF) (talk) 18:24, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
Translation units for categories
[edit]Hi. I've noticed that you are doing posts' archiving this way. It does have some sense in having the "Published" translatable but why do you make the category wrapped in translate tags? You should just use #translation: magic word right after category name (without space): Special:Diff/14587596. --Base (talk) 19:20, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
- Hello. I really appreciate the advice. I have been wrapping the Archive Category and Published text in translation tags to make sure the edits are made on the translated drafts (aka the translated drafts are archived as well). If this is an unnecessary step, then I am happy to stop wrapping the Archive Category in translation tags. Best, ASherman (WMF) (talk) 19:31, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
- The translations are getting updated on marking page for translation, that includes "Translation page template" — all text/markup outside of translate tags. (In last months it is buggy so might require 2 markings for translation so that FuzzyBot awakes, as a WMFer you might poke appropriate guys so they fix it faster :) ) It is not needed to add new units just for that :) --Base (talk) 20:04, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for the context, I will not be marking Categories in the future ;). Also, I have heard of this need to poke FuzzyBot. I will look into the issue for last month, thank you for pointing that out. ASherman (WMF) (talk) 20:08, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Wikimedia Highlights, November 2015
[edit]Hello, Mr. Sherman. I have marked for translation last month's Wikimedia Highlights. I also fixed a small error in its code; I believe it is okay now, but please go ahead and check it. And thank you for the article. Allan Aguilar (talk) 19:10, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for catching that I appreciate it :)! We are still working on the draft and I will be messaging the community later next week. And thank you for reading. ASherman (WMF) (talk) 19:21, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

Blog Calendar
[edit]Hello.
I've seen that for the most you've been maintaining the blog calendar.
However, recently I've also seen edits of the calendar by David Denti and P Subhashish as well.
Can anyone who writes a blogpost draft mark a date on your meta blog calendar for its publication? --Muzammil (talk) 17:52, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
- Hello, yes! anyone can add posts to the meta calendar. We ask that you follow the template specified above the calendar:
{{blogpost |draft= |title= |author= |reviewer= |date= |url= }}
- If you have any other questions please feel free to ask :). ASherman (WMF) (talk) 22:26, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
Translation of Wikimedia Highlights, December 2015
[edit]Hello, I'm working on translating this page to my language. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but could you mark the photo captions for translation as well? There are still several captions that are still in English and are not available for translation. Thank you. Quenhitran (talk) 09:00, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
- Hello, thank you for taking the time to translate the highlights :). We really appreciate it! We choose to omit the licensing information from the highlights image captions to make it easier on translators; licensing is not typically translated. Hope this answers your question. ASherman (WMF) (talk) 17:35, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
- I'd also second Quenhitran's comment. I understand that it may not be translated normally...but I feel, and, of course this is my opinion, that it takes something away from your viewership.
- Hello, I am happy to add translation tags for all the licensing info, on next months highlights. More people must feel this way and I am happy to adapt and update the process :). If you would like to discuss other changes let me know. ASherman (WMF) (talk) 17:09, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
- Separately, a recommendation for the future, is when you have several bullet points, like in the brief section, please create an individual translation for each bullet point it makes it easier to process a translation for one line than three lines at once, and the faster it gets translated as I have to pause mid-translating to rest. Just a thought. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 06:42, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
- Hello, this is a good point thank you for bringing it up. I will make sure to split up the bullet points into individual translation elements, it does sound easier. If you have any other comments or concerns feel free to ask. ASherman (WMF) (talk) 17:09, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

- I'm struggling to understand what you mean in English by "more than 100 times the total that put creationism on top 15 years ago". Could you clarify please? -- Amanda (aka DQ) 15:06, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
- Hello, does this make more sense "the most-edited in 2015 got 100 times the total of the most-edited in 2001"? ASherman (WMF) (talk) 16:43, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
- That does. I think the best way to say it in English is "The most-edited article this past year, [[$death|Deaths in 2015]], inspired 18,271 edits—more than 100 times the total of the most edited article in 2001." -- Amanda (aka DQ) 18:04, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
- I am glad it helped :). ASherman (WMF) (talk) 18:16, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

WMF Blog on #2 Esperanto Wikipedian
[edit]Hi Andrew,
I've seen that you've updated the blog calendar for April 2016.
However, there is one blog on #2 Esperanto Wikipedian as per Wikistats on Dietrich Michael Weidmann. I had discussed the blog with Ed with some aspects to kept in mind while posting the blog.
He has even started working on it.
I request you to please publish it soon.
This will facilitate me in showcasing Khowar, Hindi, Telugu and many other South Asian as well as other language Wiki communities with whom I share more proximity and who are often underrepresented.
Umpteen in advance in anticipation of the best cooperation from the blog team. --Muzammil (talk) 20:00, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
- Apologies for the delay, hindustanilanguage—I've published the post and will follow up with you via email. Best, Ed Erhart (WMF) (talk) 01:52, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
