Unblock for Hurricane Noah on ar.wiki
Can someone please unblock Hurricane Noah on the Arabic Wikipedia? I don't know any local sysops, nor do I know enough Arabic to file a request there. I know Hurricane Noah, and he isn't a vandal anywhere. I think that the block is a mistake. Thanks. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 04:23, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Alaa: Could you handle this? Thanks. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 04:23, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- For the record, google translate says that the block was based on their username (which makes a bit of sense since they have 0 edits on arwiki) DannyS712 (talk) 06:13, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- Not done The stewards cannot, and will not, amend local decisions taken by Arabic Wikipedia. The wiki surely has local block appeal procedure, and they are the only way to get the block reviewed. Best, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 17:28, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Dr-Taher: Can you review this, this seems to be a crosswiki user who is blocked there, the exemption should had applied (i.e. placed into the category of usernames that shouldn't be blocked). @علاء: Can you help here as usual :) Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 17:31, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Possible copyright violations on the Croatian Wikipedia?
Hello, I am going to try to make it as short as possible. Fellow User:MJL has recommended me to post this here, on the Steward requests-page, after we yesterday talked off-wiki about this.
Last night I noticed, that an IP-user keeps removing a section from the article hr:Elektroplatiranje zlatom on the Croatian Wikipedia. At the begin, I believed it is just the "average, section-remover vandalism", but I noticed something weird when I looked at the page history. You can see that this has been going on since 2018, which was a bit fishy to me. I took a look at the text and the source and noticed, the content was copied from the Croatian encyclopedia. I have revdeleted the edits that contain copyvio and contacted the author.
My first question is, is this problematic or not - because someone has requested an E-Mail permission for the Croatian encyclopedia? On the website of the Croatian encyclopedia, there is a text saying:
(Google Translated)
LEGAL NOTES
It is allowed to use or cite individual articles in parts or in whole with an indication of the source. Articles may not be published in printed or electronic form as complete and special publications without the written consent of the Miroslav Krleža Lexicographic Institute. All copyrights are retained by the Miroslav Krleža Lexicographic Institute
In the E-Mail permission request for the Croatian Wikipedia, there is a text saying:
(Google Translated)
Dear,
with regard to your inquiry about citing articles from the editions of the Lexicographic Institute, we answer:
You can cite complete articles as well as individual parts of them, citing the source. On the other hand, we do not consider Wikipedia to be a "complete and separate publication" - it would only be if all or part of the institution's articles were part of it - and accordingly you do not need our written consent to cite the institution's material.
Moreover, we look forward to any new information on Wikipedia sourced by the Lexicographic Institute as a reliable partner in shaping knowledge.
As much as I understand it, Wikipedia needs to be written in own words, since we are trying to create free content here. But how is it exactly in this case? I asked another sysop off-wiki for his opinion, and he believed that this might be compatible with the CC-licence. User:MJL has explained me, that permissions are only valid if they are compatible with the CC-license.
Another thing I have noticed, it seems like many, almost all user-requested copyright permissions on hr.wiki, are not really compatible with the CC-licences (See: hr:Wikipedija:Dopuštenja za uporabu sadržaja). Basically, the replies contain the "yes", but in really many cases, nobody mentioned the CC-licence in the reply. I even found "permissions" that say that "they do not want their text to be edited", which is obviously not a permission for a project, that is getting edited everyday.
What to do about all of this? Is there anyone we can contact about this? It seems like it has been like this for many years now and I worry that many content was created from those "permissions", which could be a huge damage for the project.

Disabled Wikipedia's 20th birthday notice on all Wikimedia site except Wikipedia
It's Wikipedia's 20th birthday. It is not Wikinews or Wikibooks etc.'s birthday. I know we all are cheer for this breaking event. But I think this should not set a global notice for it.
Sincerely, Impartial just (Because he was using tor, his IP was blocked in meta-wiki and was requested by me on his behalf.)

Copyvio on hr.wiki
Hello stewards!
I have noticed a copyvio on an article on hr.wiki, which sadly remained unnoticed from May 1st, 2020 until now. I am talking about this edit where contented was added that was copied from a website. My question is, is it enough to just remove the sections that are copyvios or has literally everything from this edit until now to be revdeleted? If yes, could you do so? Best regards, Koreanovsky (Ča–Kaj–Što?!) 19:12, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
- Koreanovsky, copyright violations should indeed be hidden, but revision deletion doesn't require steward intervention – you can do it yourself. You can select multiple revisions at once by selecting the last offending one, pressing the shift key and then clicking on the first one that has the issue. Best wishes and merry Christmas, Blablubbs (talk) 19:18, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hello Blablubbs, thank you for the fast reply! The problem is, between the edit of May 1st and now - there have been thousands of edits. And if really all of them need to be hidden, it would literally take ages - so is there some steward tool that could do that? Thanks! Best wishes and Merry Christmas! --Koreanovsky (Ča–Kaj–Što?!) 19:20, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
- Koreanovsky, you can expand the view to 500 pages and then proceed as I described above: Select multiple edits by clicking the first one you want to hide, press shift and click the last one you want to hide, then revision delete them. That way, it should be doable within a few minutes. Blablubbs (talk) 19:23, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you! --Koreanovsky (Ča–Kaj–Što?!) 19:24, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
- Note: Now done by Koreanovsky. Blablubbs (talk) 19:34, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
