Hi, I would like to apply for global renamer permissions. My languages are hi-N, en-4, sa-2, pra-1, fr-1. I have some basic understanding of other Indic languages like gu, mr, pa, bn, etc. due to interest in comparative historical linguistics and having enwiktionary as homewiki, which I think would be useful for this right when dealing with usernames. Thanks, – Svārtava (tɕ) 10:38, 14 December 2024 (UTC)

- I think some of the hat collection concerns are overblown here. I do agree the Meta RfA was a bit quick, but I'm not sure if that really negates trust for this role. I'd of course recommend that the candidate slow down, but I see no reason to move to the oppose camp here, there's no evidence that these permissions would be misused. – Ajraddatz (talk) 23:59, 24 December 2024 (UTC)

Changed to neutral because of your recent but withdrawn RfA, as SHB2000's and TenWhile's objections are relevant.I would definitely advise to slow down and to never hat collect for advanced permissions. However, you still have my moral support. Codename Noreste (talk) 19:09, 24 December 2024 (UTC)- Now changed one more time as a weak support, on second thought. Please take my advice above seriously, but you still have my moral support and my vote. You are not punished by other users but scrutinized because of the withdrawn RfA. - Support - while I did feel like 3 advanced rights in 45 days was too fast, the OP has withdrawn one of them, and I do not see any benefit in "punishing" the user further. Leaderboard (talk) 13:18, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- It was never about "punishing" the user; permissions aren't anyone's rights and as A09 mentioned above, "they have not shown yet the need for the tools." --SHB2000 (t • c) 22:36, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- To be fair, what can they show? Someone applies for GR because they want to rename usernames... Leaderboard (talk) 03:19, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- I want to tell you two points: 1) You said that you weren't intending to punish the user, but by you (followed by others) opposing the RFA and changing to oppose in this candidacy is purely punitive in people's eyes. 2) How can it be that they have not shown the need for the tools? We can assume that if we granted the right to them, they would process the special:globalrenamequeue. While global renamers with Indic-language roots are always needed, I see no reason why we should oppose considering that they will not misuse the tool. As said, I am not convinced of the drama that you aroused yesterday. ToadetteEdit (talk) 07:38, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- In what world is a change in vote considered punitive? I've tried avoid using this term for the better or worse, but I'll say it: hat collectors more or less cause more problems, and if requesting three significant advanced perms within 2 months is not an example of blatant hat collecting, then I don't know what is. I don't trust hat collectors because what's to say that you'd just process a few renames and then stop using the tool. GRN is still a rather sensitive permission and should only be for trusted users...and hat collecting is not a sign of trust; rather it gives the opposite impression.
- As for "As said, I [Toadette] am not convinced of the drama that you [SHB] aroused yesterday", I didn't know opposing an RfA and catching a user's red flags is the equivalent of starting drama. Not to mention the fact that OP had the choice to not rapidly request permissions – they very much had their chance to let this request pass, but instead they blew it. Not my problem for bringing up red flags, really. --SHB2000 (t • c) 07:55, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- @SHB2000: So to be clear, am I correct in understanding that the opposition to this particular GRN request is because of the RFA yesterday and the requesting rights in less time gives you the concern that I might be collecting them instead of actually intending to use them?
- Before the RFA there didn't seem to be so much opposition and as I can see there are a few precedents of getting GRN within two months of local sysop and I don't think I will process a few renames and then stop using it since I am fairly active to check rename requests frequently. – Svārtava (tɕ) 09:00, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- If one is going to oppose a request and change their opinion in another is like they are not wanting to have the other userright that is succeeding be given to the candidate just because of the former request, therefore, the user feels a bit discouraged. Would you block a user just because they were recently unjustly blocked, and their contributions are in good faith? I know that you dislike hat collectors, but I believe in this case your sentiment began to drive users into changing their opinions, causing unnecessary drama, and so this will be 50/50 by three days. I do not want to make this discussion go deeper, just saying. ToadetteEdit (talk) 11:52, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- The hat collecting accusations are definitely discouraging. I don't mind if someone opposes on the grounds that I need more experience or points out any of my actions that are concerning to them and I am willing to learn from mistakes.
- Assuming that the requests are not in good faith is not appreciable. – Svārtava (tɕ) 12:13, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- And people changing their opinions...is a bad thing? There is a clear difference between hat collecting and user blocks, so no, they're not comparable; again, what you call "causing unnecessary drama" is entirely on OP who had the choice to not request 3 advanced perms within 2 months. If anything, OP's insistence that their behaviour was not hat collecting (twice now, even though what was done was pretty indefensible) is also enough for me to oppose this request. --SHB2000 (t • c) 12:37, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- I have to agree with the OP here. The most in terms of the mistakes OP did was think that it's OK to get three advanced rights in 45 days. Pointed out that was not correct, and fine, they withdrew. People can change their opinion, but the grounds for the change is what made the OP unhappy. Getting two advanced rights in 45 days isn't what most would call hat-collecting, and my experience is that we start to call someone a hat-collector when they have requested many rights in a short period of time (and refused, usually) - this isn't the case with this user. SHB2000 didn't do anything wrong by pointing out the problem - people blindly changing their opinions and accusing the OP of hat-collecting just because of this is. Also: what is the community going to gain by having the OP wait for a few months for no reason? Leaderboard (talk) 13:06, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- If the OP didn't started the RFA, we wouldn't be discussing this right now. I am not blaming you, but telling you in good faith that the OP and yourself didn't do anything wrong. In fact, nobody did not do anything wrong. By the way, the fact that users did change their opinion due to the OP being a hat collector, and that your sentiment is the base of others' changed opinion should not be related to the actual need for the tools shown by this editor, which is valid. As I said, I do not want to further deepen the discussion, so let this be the last. My apologies if I said something wrong, as I do not intend to accuse anyone involved. We should generally not bring up other requests for permissions, but I should agree with what it is said above. ToadetteEdit (talk) 14:41, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- If no one did ever anything wrong, why are you problematising it? Points have been made, and no one is trying to punish Svartava. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but a fair informing is expected, hence changes in votes are not some extraordinary action. A09|(pogovor) 15:15, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- It was never about "punishing" the user; permissions aren't anyone's rights and as A09 mentioned above, "they have not shown yet the need for the tools." --SHB2000 (t • c) 22:36, 24 December 2024 (UTC)

I'm involved some at UAA, and I think I could handle some unblocks at enwiki that involve renaming. I read the Global rename policy and have experience with enwiki's username policy. I speak en-N, es-2, and la-1. If anyone has concerns about my actions they can message me on my talk pages. I'll also ask around if I have any questions regarding a rename. Hello, everyone. I am a Wikipedian contributing to the Spanish Wikipedia. My roles there include Rollbacker, Reviewer, Template Editor, and Rollbacker on Wikidata, among other local responsibilities. My native language is Spanish, and I have strong proficiency in English, French, Portuguese, Italian and Arabic. The purpose of my request is to broaden my involvement within Wikimedia Foundation projects, without necessarily limiting myself to being a local contributor on Wikipedia.
I am aware that many prefer candidates to have prior experience as sysops, but honestly, my local Wikipedia often judges users harshly during candidacies. We are losing more administrators due to poor management. Most candidacies fail to gain sufficient support and are often judged for minor mistakes, sometimes dating back years. This has been acknowledged by a former administrator of Spanish Wikipedia, who expressed similar concerns.
Additionally, I couldn’t participate in the local renaming process on my Wikipedia because the renamers there do not allow collaboration or responses—it is, unfortunately, a space controlled exclusively by them. For these reasons, I am submitting my request to collaborate more broadly and to contribute with my language skills to support the Wikimedia community. This text was modified on December 25, 2024 to make a clarification that may not have been understood in the answers. —Aopou {discusión} 23:26, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- Neutral - would prefer if they were an admin and I'm not seeing any recent edits/clerking on es:Wikipedia:Cambiar el nombre de usuario. I'm not opposed to this passing though since Aopou seems fairly trusted. Ternera (talk) 05:57, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: Ternera: Actually, my idea was to become a local renamer, but on the Spanish Wikipedia, username change requests are quite rare, and there is already someone who usually handles them—a global renamer and former administrator of that same Wikipedia. The times I wanted to respond or collaborate, I was told I needed to submit a request. So, I prefer to do it globally, especially since I have knowledge of other languages, allowing me to contribute as a global renamer. —Aopou {discusión} 06:04, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Aopou Why are you not an admin on that wiki? Leaderboard (talk) 06:35, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- Leaderboard: Honestly, it is one of the Wikipedias where users are judged the most when submitting a candidacy. They look for even the smallest mistake from years ago (I say this as an exaggeration, but they do search for the tiniest errors). Additionally, most users dislike candidates with few edits (fewer than 50,000 or 100,000). There are more details, but unfortunately, that’s why I was never a candidate and never submitted my application. Even though I would like to, considering we have 56 administrators and fewer than 10 are active, I prefer to keep contributing to my Wikipedia and others in different ways. —Aopou {discusión} 06:50, 19 December 2024 (UTC)

- Neutral for now. I'm more or less concerned by what ternera has mentioned already; otherwise I'd lean back onto edit matrix which doesn't seem too strong now, but I'm also not sure if this is because of eswiki's RfA process (as described by the candidate). --SHB2000 (t • c) 07:35, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per SHB2000 (sorry). I would support later if there are advanced permissions or better edit matrix (e.g. strong cross wiki track-record, etc.). I'm also hesitant because this request passing opens the global rename candidacy to lot more other users without advanced rights or strong edit matrix, which I am not sure is desirable. – Svārtava (tɕ) 08:38, 19 December 2024 (UTC)

- Support She's a trusted user on eswiki, and I can vouch for what she has described about the RfA process over there. A somewhat complex situation that has stagnated the sysop numbers and made the community have a lot of experienced users without any advanced permissions. Whatever the result, as Gadir said above, I think you should go for the local adminship somewhere in the future, Aopou. You never know if you can pass it unless you give it a try. --Pólux (talk) 06:28, 21 December 2024 (UTC)

Hello! My global-ipblock-exempt permission will expire on 30 December 2024. I would like to renew it. I am a part of the SWMT and work against vandalism through SWViewer, and most of the time I use VPN while accessing public wifi. So to work properly against vandalism in small wiki, I need the permission. thanks. --Borhan (talk) 06:49, 26 December 2024 (UTC)
