<translate> This page is for requesting CheckUser information on a wiki with no local CheckUsers (see also [[<tvar name="SRP">Steward requests/Permissions</tvar>|requesting checkuser access]]). Make sure to follow the following instructions, or your request may not be processed in a timely manner.</translate>
<translate> Before making a request:</translate>
- <translate> Make sure you have a good reason for the check. It will only be accepted to counter vandalism or disruption to Wikimedia wikis. Valid reasons include needing a block of the underlying IP or IP range, disruptive sockpuppetry, vote-stacking, and similar disruption where the technical evidence from running a check would prevent or reduce further disruption.</translate>
- <translate> Be specific in your reasons. Ambiguous or insufficient reasons will cause delays. Explain the disruption and why you believe the accounts are related, ideally using [[<tvar name="diff">mw:Special:MyLanguage/Help:Diff</tvar>|diff links]] or other evidence.</translate>
- <translate> Make sure there are no local checkusers.</translate>
- <translate> Please ensure that the check hasn't already been done:</translate>

Requests
pt.wikipedia
I am a member of wiki.pt's ArbCom. We are dealing with an accusation of checkuser abuse. In order to avoid COI, we prefer to place this request to stewards rather than to order to our local checkusers. We would like all available checkuser logs on wiki.pt related to the users pt:user:Pediboi and pt:user:Observatore to be sent to our mailing list (ca-ptwikipedia@lists.wikimedia.org). We don't need the results, just the logs. Thank you, Lechatjaune 21:01, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hi there, we won't send the log to that list, this is private data, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 22:09, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
- The list is closed and all ArbCom members are identified on meta in order to have access to private data. If you can't send the information to that list, where may we have it? Lechatjaune 22:52, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
- My initial reaction is to say "Sorry, we do not release private information to just anyone, even if they happen to have identified to the Foundation." However, upon re-reading the CheckUser policy, I noted two points:

“ | Suspicion of abuses of CheckUser should be discussed by each local wiki. On wikis with an approved ArbCom, the ArbCom can decide on the removal of access. On wikis without an approved ArbCom, the community can vote removal of access. Removal can only be done by Stewards. A Steward may not decide to remove access on their own, but can help provide information necessary to prove the abuse (such as logs). If necessary, and in particular in case of lack of respect towards the privacy policy, the Board of Wikimedia Foundation can be asked to declare removal of access as well.
Complaints of abuse of CheckUser or privacy policy breaches may also be brought to the Ombudsman commission. |

- I would suggest that perhaps sanitized logs could come from stewards (since we do not release private information to just anyone, even if they happen to be identified to the Foundation). However, I would be more comfortable if the Ombudsman commission investigated, which is clearly sanctioned on CheckUser policy (but not on Ombudsman commission, where their scope is described as restricted to violations of the privacy [not checkuser] policy). I will request input from other stewards and checkusers on this point on their respective mailing lists. — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 17:19, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
- All arbcom members on wiki.pt have to be identified on meta to deal with private information. Our list is closed and only effective members of ArbCom may read the content. If you prefer sending the information to one of the members instead of sending to the list, please feel free. Lechatjaune 20:37, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
