Revision as of 12:14, 24 March 2024
This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.
Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

Global sysop for TheresNoTime
- Global user: TheresNoTime (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
- Not ending before 26 March 2024 15:36 UTC
Hello! As someone who has previously done quite a bit of xwiki maintenance/anti-vandalism work (primarily as a steward), and wishes to keep helping out on smaller projects as and when the need arises, I am requesting global sysop permissions. This desire has most recently come from my closing of this phabricator task (with my "sysadmin hat" on) and referring the user to potentially reach out to the GSs — I noticed there's as always work to be done on these smaller projects, and I have the experience to help.
For full transparency, I resigned my stewardship due in part to an incident in October 2022 which resulted in the loss of my checkuser/oversight permissions on the English Wikipedia. I regret my actions, and posted a public apology in May of 2023. I again here reaffirm my apologies, and hope my previous positive track record and desire to be helpful makes up for my mistakes. Many thanks — TheresNoTime (talk • they/them) 15:36, 12 March 2024 (UTC)

Support, but make sure to follow your own advice when needed (especially on taking a break). It's not common for someone to have these many chances from my experience, and I could see a different user being met with a less-pleasant response from the community. Support seems like the issue leading to the previous resignation/removal of CUOS won't be replicated and would be unlikely to happen with GS tools anyway. Trusted overall, mistakes are allowed. – Ajraddatz (talk) 17:34, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

I may support in a year or two (and understand your apology and thank you for making one), but now is too early – maybe at the end of the year I'll consider. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs) 10:55, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

- I honestly don't see TNT being much active in the area that requires this toolset. The motivation here seems to be the declined task but GS/R suggests that the requests are being dealt with promptly. It's not actually lack of trust that concerns me, but general lack of activity on the area.--BRP ever 17:26, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

- Generally I would like to see someone being active in small-wiki-related issues before requesting GS, not the other way around. Being entrusted with specific user rights does not automatically guarantee the experience needed for different permissions. ~~~~
User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 19:16, 18 March 2024 (UTC)- @1234qwer1234qwer4 They were fairly active in GS areas (as a steward) in the not so distant past, which should be more than enough to show experience for GS. We really shouldn't be putting up artificial barriers for experienced editors returning back from a stretch of inactivity, since it effectively encourages peeps to game the system to keep perms and/or risk burnout. Sohom (talk) 13:05, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- I have not seen them active in GS areas as a steward, nor have they provided any evidence of that in their nomination (their crossactivity for small wikis seems to largely consist of creating their own local account). If they want to return[...] back from a stretch of inactivity (quite a euphemistic way of putting it, IMHO), they should run for steward in the next elections, unless they can demonstrate that they need the GS permissions in particular. ~~~~

Global IP block exempt for Uyiliu2

I have to use a proxy due to local policy, and I hope to be unblocked. I need to add cross-language links to newly created articles and submit my own images to Wikimedia.Thank you so much --Uyiliu2 (talk) 08:37, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
- What policy requires using a proxy? Our policy (no open proxies) certainly doesn't require using a proxy. — xaosflux Talk 10:08, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
- The policy here refers to the policy of mainland China. I need to use a proxy to access and edit Wikimedia sites, but my IP is often blocked. Therefore, I hope to be granted GIPBE to avoid being affected. Thanks!--Uyiliu2 (talk) 05:56, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Uyiliu2 What wikis are you having issues with, as I see you are exempt on the ZH and EN wikipedias. I do not think global exempt would be beneficial for only a couple of wikis unless you were a sysop or something similar. Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 19:47, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

- Yes, I applied for local IP exemption for the Chinese Wiki and English Wiki. I am from mainland China and had to use a proxy. Therefore, I was banned from all IP addresses. Then I was unable to use Wikimedia Foundation projects such as Wikidata normally. For example, I could not edit interlanguage links.--Uyiliu2 (talk) 10:14, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, good. If you applied for local IPBE on zhwiki & enwiki, you don't need Global IPBE anymore, right? Than you can withdraw this request. --TenWhile6 (talk | SWMT) 10:18, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
- I’m afraid I cannot. I wish to use Wikimedia data and Wikimedia Commons normally, such as editing interlanguage links and uploading images to Wikimedia Commons. However, I am currently prohibited from doing so. Other than applying for GIPBE, do you have any other recommendations? If there is a better method, I would be very eager to try it.--Uyiliu2 (talk) 05:37, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for NordyGuard
- Global user: NordyGuard (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
Hi,
I am writing in place of NordyGuard, as he cannot make his request himself. Participating in the RESET! event, he was blocked on WD. His local account has been created, but the global block made by Jon Kolbert is still in effect.
So this is a person wishing to contribute. Nattes à chat can prove what I write by adding a comment.
Thanks, ―Eihel (talk) 23:33, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Eihel: Hello, it appears in this instance the user can disable their VPN (which allowed them to edit originally on frwiki) or request a local IP block exemption as per the applicable local policy. Jon Kolbert (talk) 17:25, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
- I pass on your advice and that's what it seems to me too. I got different feedback (I didn't look at the logs). Thanks, Jon Kolbert. ―Eihel (talk) 17:49, 23 March 2024 (UTC)

Abuse filter helpers for Eihel
- Global user: Eihel (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
Hello,
In the time to respond and help following my RfC, I propose my application as Abuse filter helpers. I have already seen and made suggestions on filters and I have read the policy of this status. I'm also accustomed to Title blacklist.
Thanks, ―Eihel (talk) 14:24, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
Question: what activities do you intend to do with the abuse filter helper role, as this allows you to view private filters and their hits on all projects? Codename Noreste 🤔 talk 16:53, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
Oppose for now. A single task does not require AFH perms; I also see this nomination as premature since the RfC has not concluded yet. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs) 23:46, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
- I would support this request if the user were a local sysop (on a major wiki), since I think admins working with filters should generally be given this read-only right since global filters became truly global, but right now I'm hesitant as to what the purpose of this request is. ~~~~
User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 00:36, 24 March 2024 (UTC) - Although I have just opposed in the RfC linked, if it does pass I wouldn't mind help with implementation and maintenance at all, but in my opinion global abuse filter helper flag poorly correlates with this, I guess what would be a more apt thing is a limited adminship on Meta, so
Weak oppose here. That said if you do indeed intend to help with various filters globally, such as fixing broken filters on small wikis, I would like to see examples of such suggestions you mention you have done somewhere. --Base (talk) 03:51, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
