Parliamentary group

edit

Hi, I've undone some of your removals of member of political party (P102) as reading the property proposals I find the use of parliamentary group (P4100) debatable in these cases, so I think at least both should be used until a consensus is reached on whether to use one or both.

The user who proposed P4100 seems to have outlined some specific use cases where members of the European Parliament were part of a group in that assembly that was not a political party (which surely does not apply to South Australian politicians) but then the property was never used for the examples.

There is also an issue with using P4100 as a qualifier of the parliamentary membership position: see Dennis Hood (Q5258529)—has defected to the Liberals today and has been in three parties in a year. That defection cannot be represented if the parliamentary group membership is itself a qualifier (unless you split each party representation as a different position held statement).

Happy to discuss and debate this further with you—could possibly be a place for P4100 to represent the Coalition or the LNP, or "independent" members of the Tasmanian Legislative Council I guess, but I'm not comfortable with applying it exclusively, as a qualifier, to most Australian politicians, when the property proposal and definitions are so vague. --Canley (talk) 13:05, 26 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

I guess you are using the EveryPolitician data model? Just a suggestion: instead of marking the parliamentary term to no value, you could link it to the term MP list such as Members of the South Australian House of Assembly, 2014–2018 (Q17012687). - Canley (talk) 14:14, 26 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Danadl, I just came across your fantastic contributions again, and wondered if you would be interested in adding your name to Wikidata:WikiProject Australia. That way you'll be notified of any Australia-related discussions. --99of9 (talk) 02:03, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
