Can this property be renamed to HGNC gene symbol?

edit

Is it possible to rename a property? The term "gene symbol" implies that it also applies on other species then Human only. Given its description and formatter URL, the property is clearly focused on human genes. With this property being renamed to HGNC gene symbol. A MGI gene symbol for mouse can be proposed to cater mouse genes. Andrawaag (talk) 20:19, 19 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Support That makes sense as mixing different databases and formatter urls will not work and is not a good approach. Sebotic (talk) 23:23, 19 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Support Makes sense and stabilizes the property as more species are added to Wikidata. Putmantime (talk) 23:40, 19 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
edit

Since there is no exact match link on the HGNC database for a name (except the ID entry which is linked to by HGNC ID (P354)) I propose to make this property's value text-only. Does it suffice to remove the formatter URL?. --SCIdude (talk) 07:59, 15 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
