Nicholas "red2" Martinez-Rossi (also known as nico) (born March 21, 2001) is an American player who last played for Apex Genesis.

Biography[edit]

red2 is a well-known figure in the North American Dota 2 scene, with experience in leagues such as IXDL and NADCL dating back as far as 2016. His first taste of a professional tournament's main stage was at BTS Pro Series 2: Americas against business associates with Plasma1337x; with the same team, he later played in the Omega League: Americas Ancient Division.

In February 2021, red2 stood-in for Electronic Boys in the 2021 DPC North America: Lower Division against Jiang Hu, a substitution that lasted for the rest of the tournament as Electronic Boys finished 6th. He continued on Electronic Boys the following season as they improved to 5th. red2 then joined The Cut for BTS Pro Series 6: Americas, where they showed they were able to take games off more-experienced sides, but lacked the quality to close out the entire series.

Ahead of the next DPC season, red2 joined Team 1 (later renaming themselves 5RATFORCESTAFF) in the North America qualifiers, successfully making it into Division II. The team showed promise but also inconsistency, dropping a game vs. Team Magnus and losing a close series to felt, finishing 4th but missing out on a three-way tiebreak with DogChamp and KBU.US for promotion.

In the 2022-2023 Dota Pro Circuit, red2 joined Team DogChamp, which was effectively 5RATFORCESTAFF but with Bloody Nine as the hard support and captain, replacing Giant. red2 demonstrated significant growth in this season, finishing 4th but with strong showings against regional powerhouses Shopify Rebellion and TSM. In the North America qualifiers for The International 2023, DogChamp proved to be dark horses, taking nouns close to both games in their 0-2 Upper Bracket Final loss, but B8 proved to be too strong in the Lower Bracket Final, with DogChamp's lack of late-game experience showing.

With Valve announcing the end of the Dota Pro Circuit, DogChamp effectively disbanded. red2 later joined Apex Genesis, pulling off an upset against nouns in the DreamLeague Season 23 qualifiers, but falling to them in the Lower Bracket Final rematch.
