Multae linguae Tungusicae in periculo sunt, et futura familiae incertae sunt. Fere 75 000 indigenarum linguis familiae utuntur. Nonnulli linguistae putant linguas Tungusicas esse partem familiae Altaicae, una cum linguis Turcicis et Mongolicis, ac fortasse linguis Coreanicis et Iaponicis. Caret autem consensus linguas Altaicas gregem linguistice geneticum constituere, contra sprachbund.
